Greetings to all my new legal bluesky contacts! Allow me to introduce myself:

I have been the paralegal at the small but formidable London shipping disputes firm Sach Solicitors since just before the pandemic.

I am also slowly preparing to take the SQE.
Makes it sound like The Deplorable Word
this is quite the detail

Occurs to me now that A Christmas Carol is basically the plot of Exodus but with the supernatural intervener using more proportionate methods.

Or perhaps more loosely the plot of Inception but from Cillian Murphy's POV and with stakes you actually care about.
Hope is here.

Obviously not surprising but nonetheless still baselessly bigoted and in defiance of recent empirical studies finding no difference in satisfaction.

The logic that plurality of loves is inherently "relativising" is ghoulish - and ignores the obvious realities of loving plural friends/relatives.

Could've sworn I remember Lammy vocally defending the role of juries not so long ago!

Hollowing them out seems a particularly awful idea when the next government could well be Faragist, and the check against state power provided by juries may be needed more sorely than ever.
"The plans, obtained by BBC News, show that Lammy, who is also deputy prime minister, wants to ask Parliament to end jury trials for defendants who would be jailed for up to five years."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy7vdvrnnvzo
Jury trials could be scrapped except in most serious cases
Only cases of alleged murder, rape or manslaughter will be decided by a jury under new proposals to cut court backlogs.

It is a bit disappointing that in Icelandic, Portuguese, Georgian, Greek etc. they replaced the pagan day names with mere numbers - as though these zealous iconoclasts somehow forgot all the interesting things from their own religion which would make for cooler substitutes - eg Russian Воскресенье.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

After more than 10 years of “the Danish Model”, nativism is hegemonic in the country, the far right polls near level highs again, and the Social Democrats lost Copenhagen and poll at historic low.

European Social Democrats should look at the facts, not the myths!

An absolute scandal compounded in this case by failure of French government and EU institutions to forcefully react and sanction in turn those who have sanctioned ICC judges and prosecutors. Makes a total mockery of FR/EU's repeated commitment to the rule of law/ICC

"Reform would be worse" is both entirely correct and entirely irrelevant until polling day 2029. What matters right now is that Labour's approach is morally repugnant on its own terms, *and is empowering Reform*. As things stand today, its not Labour or Reform. Its Labour *then* Reform.
While it feels like I'm repeatedly slamming my head against a brick wall repeating this massively simple concept. Saying "Reform would be worse" doesn't make what Labour is doing better. Labour is now the most anti-immigration, anti-any marginalised group, government we have seen in decades. 1/
Very long thread: As with many of Labour's anti-immigration policies, this isn't new. British police have been stationed in other countries for this purpose for a long time
It does however show how Labour is pushing more on anti-immigration than previous governments. 1/

It's wild how "our intellectual elite are a bit morally smug" warrants the same article being pushed out saying as much for a decade, but a global paedophile ring in which many of our richest and most powerful and leading minds all took part is, you know, uncouth to talk about.
Someday you, too, could have the moral fortitude to look upon a years-long rape circus organized by the nation's most powerful elites and declare, "The people upset about this are speaking about it the wrong way."

This is of course bad but it cracks me up how they do this elaborate dance to smuggle in the 10 Commamdments as a "historical document". Who are they fooling?
A measure that includes the Ten Commandments in a list of “historical documents” was passed in the Ohio Senate on Wednesday. Ohio public schools will be required to display at least some of the documents in each classroom of each school. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/11/19/o...

MIT's famous linguistic professor Noam Chomsky was in regular and close contact with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a review of emails published by the U.S. House Oversight Committee. In the documents, Chomsky described Epstein as a "highly valued friend."
