Maybe this is just because the show is condensed but the impression it gives me is that the outcomes of the war repudiate Krishna's advice - and Krishna himself comes out looking at best deeply flawed by the end.

How fairly does that represent the epic?

I do however think we can do better than the current terminology - terms like "egalitarian", "hierarchist" and "cruel" would I think be less slippery and more useful than "left", "right" and "far" respectively.

Well, it's for good reason that "unknowable purposes" is no defence in a court of law. I don't think it should be enough to let God off the hook either.
