OK i have to do other things, so summary thread time.

Here is an actual honest picture of a tech anti-AI stance. Please refer to this instead of any pro-AI strawmen you may see.

First, my credentials:

as always genAI is a great litmus test for who's actually interested in the process of making art versus who just wants to skip to the part where they're perceived as An Artist and praised for it

weird colour scheme to choose for a stocks dashboard
so funny this immediately happens when software companies can’t pretend that ai was anything more than money moving between 10 different companies over and over and doesn’t lead to any real growth

if you use genAI for anything, i assume you'll use it for everything. of course you could say you use it moderately, but why believe you. don't fucking use AI

This is what we are boiling the ocean, deskilling our workforce, decimating the arts, destroying knowledge, suiciding children for: organizing PDFs.
Some things I had it do tonight:
- Make a few basic personal websites (the "party trick," @lilashroff.bsky.social called it)
- Look at the contents of a folder and rename all the screenshots inside according to what they depict
- Organize a bunch of PDFs and create an interactive index for them

what I can appreciate about the latest version of the fundamentally unnecessary water and oil consuming technology that helps automate fascism is that it makes me feel like a very special little boy
what i can appreciate about claude code in the terminal versus the chatbot stuff is that i feel i am talking to computer to make it do computer. whereas the chatbot stuff feels much more like a thing pretending to be human. feels more like using a power tool than going to therapy if that makes sense
Spending more time with Claude Code tonight and I do think one basic reality is that AI skeptics need to update their priors: Plenty of cause for concern, plenty of room to hit these companies for unethical behavior, resource demands, etc, but we are so, so far past the era of "stochastic parrots"

This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom:

"If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."
For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.

That’s what we have to change.

there is a post from the US gov 'department of war' on here that includes video of them actually murdering people and threatening to murder more people & it's been up since november
Yeah. The Bluesky app has a zero tolerance policy towards wishing death on people.

I'm sorry I can't stop thinking "all democrats know how to do is fund police, do means test and lie" on repeat now
Unfortunately Democrats only know how to give cops more money, technology, and staffing. They only have one button to press and they’re making a very concerned face as they press it

in 2024 i was always hearing "it sucks, but dems have to follow the polling" on immigration, which had them backing extreme far right wing bills on the border. now that there's been a huge shift to the left in polling, the response is "how about 1/100th of what you guys want". funny how that works.

maddie and i have been theorycrafting this thing for so long, and suddenly, it's taking shape. keep your eyes on this, i think this tracker will do some things that will make you go "wow, why wasnt this a feature in every tracker ever already???"
Been a while since I did a General MIDI transcription, but just finished one using an experimental tracker/DAW-ish thing I've been working on! (more on that in the future)

its so annoying this shit seeps into literally every corner of life but another way to not give up long form VGM mixes is look for DJ sets!

Dedeco is a great example of someone taking VGM they enjoy & presenting them in a fun format that can be listened to passively
