Lmk if it gets better. It just felt like knockoff King fanfiction to me.
Omg it just came with 8 minutes to spare!
Waiting for a package requiring signature that's supposed to get here in the next 20 minutes. Not feeling optimistic.
I am using a bunch of my fancy Rancho Gordo beans to make refried beans for freezer burritos. Because why shouldn't my half ass lunch when I suddenly realize I don't have anything to eat be spectacular?
Extra points if it's gay!
Teen loved the Romantasy series by Brigid Kemmerer, we will be back at the library in a couple days for more to read. Any recommendations of complete YA series she might enjoy?

This is incredibly good & ties together so much that I’ve been thinking about lately.

From “AGI is perpetually just around the corner” to Thiel’s fixation w/the Antichrist, Tech has completely assimilated Christian eschatology: specifically the belief that The End is always imminent but never here.
I spend way too much time typing my credit card information into my phone, why have they done this to us?
They moved my choir's email to a listserv and it is not going well. We have been messing this up my entire adult life, how is this still happening???
Oh I didn't get a pic of 13yo, who was dressed as a 90s grunge teen. She was wondering if she would do something to her hair and I said absolutely not she actually has the exact same hair as Dave Grohl so it's perfect.
We didn't turn the porch light on and so did not get trick or treaters (which was the plan as the last few years had such a disappointing turnout) but 16yo stayed in for the first time and we had a lovely night watching Ready or Not and eating 13yo's candy.
Actually my personal take on politics and messaging right now is that the environment is ripe for this kind of Us Politics. It's part of what Mamdani is doing so well and what worked for Obama in his campaigns. And it's incredibly easy to do when you are working against literal tyrants.
I prefer an Everyone Is Us approach where what you want for those you know and love is the same as what you want for everyone else. You want your kid to be able to eat 3 good meals a day? Then you want that for everyone else's kid, too.
I think about this as Us vs Them Politics and I see it constantly. What is okay for Us (the people you know and love) is different that what is okay for Them (other people who must be bad for some reason). I can't tell if it's actually getting worse or if you just notice it more as you get older.
The thing that always strikes me about these is that you can imagine the parent of a gen-z person telling their kid, "Hey you worked hard this week, just go have an ice cream or something," while simultaneously decrying the entire generation for doing the same thing.
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

The Empty Man is a favorite
Heaven forbid an article meant to recommend books actually recommend some books you didn't know about already. I know I love to read articles that tell me all the books I already read so I don't have anything new to enjoy!
I cannot figure it out to save my life!
Dude. The ghosting as default is such a troubling thing. I literally had someone ghost me on a second date when he'd been texting me with the location 20 minutes before it started.
Ok sometimes it is true but you don't know if he's an asshole or just sick until time passes. Which is basically how dating works!
Boooo. I hope he feels better soon and you get that second date!
Great list, Emily. So many of my faves on it, extra claps for including The Silent Companions, which is one of those books I always like to yell about!
13yo is reading a YA Romantasy and loving it and told me all delighted that it's a polyamory book because there are 3 different characters all connected and I'm honestly not sure if it actually is or if she is from a more enlightened generation that doesn't understand the point of love triangles.
I thought from the trailers that IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU was one of those unflattering projects with unlikable protagonists actors take on for awards but instead it's the closest work I've seen to Ferrante's THE DAYS OF ABANDONMENT.
