Amnesty International released findings from its investigation into the Everglades Concentration Camp (Alligator Alcatraz), which was built by the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

They found evidence of torture, among other human rights violations.

"Democratic voters have to force their candidates to embrace real, aggressive Supreme Court reform. That means not only coming up with a plan (including, most likely, term limits and court expansion) but being unrestrained in how they talk about these six villains who are destroying our democracy."
Democrats Need to Treat the Supreme Court Like the Villain It Is
The Court is out of control, and we'll never see reform unless we build the case for it. Starting now.

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH

The president fails to realize how deeply Somali Americans love this country.

We are doctors, teachers, and elected leaders working to make our country better.

We will not let Trump intimidate or debilitate us. My op-ed:

For most accommodations (extra time on tests), the solution is everyone should get extra time. For a few things (handicapped parking spots), someone taking it if they shouldn’t can be harmful, but making this a societal crusade will most likely just hurt ppl with invisible disabilities
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

@hamiltonnolan.bsky.social tells it: “To decide that these bad faith issues must be compromised on in the name of savvy politics is precisely wrong. The compromise itself does the damage. The compromise itself brands you as insincere, weak, a sellout.“

Great thread on how many discussions of “affordability” miss at least half the picture since they focus just on prices and leave out wages
Affordability is dominating the discourse. What I don't like about the conversation is that it focuses almost entirely on prices—as if the only way to make life affordable is to make things cheaper. But affordability is determined by prices *and pay.* 1/

We must keep calling out those that cave to the Trump Admin, and the latest is Northwestern.

As part of their "deal," NU will pay $75 million, stop vital research, renege on agreements with its students over the war in Gaza, and more.

Throwing your students under the bus to please Trump. Shameful.

You can look at the experience of working families over the last two business cycles to see why focusing only on prices provides a distorted picture. Looking only at prices, you’d think working families were far poorer in 2024 than they were in 2019. 2/

What the actual hell is up with this huge MAHA banner on the HHS building in DC? Who are “real people” and who are non-real people? Why do the figures have purple and blue skin? Is the dark half where we vaccinate our children and eat red M&Ms? Why is a squiggly line bursting out of North America?

Fascinating read on how a suspicious pitch highlighted a growing problem in freelance journalism: A flood of generative AI that even prestige publications don't catch, complete with fabricated quotes, from scammers who see opportunity in a field so many real humans are struggling to survive in.

A suspicious pitch from a freelancer led editor Nicholas Hune-Brown to dig into their past work. By the end, four publications, including The Guardian and Dwell, had removed articles from their sites.

Probably he heard Trump likes Hegseth’s campaign against beards and fat people in the military so he decided to start his own crusade of attacking people for their appearance
