Fuck right off, @newrepublic.com.
A base that has long made pragmatic, sober decisions appears increasingly attracted to charismatic outsiders who promise to break from the party’s failures of the last decade. They see their party’s leaders as feckless and inept.

It’s the Democratic Tea Party, with a twist. trib.al/mC5cBDA

Somehow people have a hard time believing both things at the same time: that its a mind-boggling transformative innovation that produces real value but that there is also no profitable business model on the horizon that can produce a positive return on the mammoth level of investment.

this may be the single most insufferable thing about the radical centrist caucus - not just extending good faith to obviously bad faith people but demanding everyone else do the same and chiding them when they don’t
A lot of our political discourse would be easier if we didn't extend good faith to people who would never extend it back.

I'm sorry the guy changing the rules on the fly is named what
I stand with County Executive Calvin Ball as he signs emergency legislation today prohibiting privately owned buildings from being used as ICE detention centers.

Howard County chose dignity, accountability, and its people. Tune into our event now:

That may prove hard to do given that Gavin Newsom is just a slick establishment politician.

Glad you finally figured that out.

No give all yours away, motherfucker.

As expected, “democracy dies in the darkness” wasn’t a motto. It was an item on his to-do list.

I don’t think this is a particularly hot take. As we keep telling a particular federal agency, wearing a mask generally indicates cognizance of guilt and an intent to do something illegal. Protest works best when done confidently and unashamedly
An entire generation of people raised on social media simply do not have an understanding of how the media, protests, and surveillance work.

My hottest take is that masks at protests are cowardly and have done absolutely nothing but make all protests themselves look unserious to neutral parties.
Anyone who is cagey about who they are or what they’re doing, do not trust. Real journalists exist in a kind of social compact where they tell us their role and their rules, they respect our rules, and in exchange for that they get access. Almost all of them are extremely scrupulous about this

this is a fake problem. no one is saying this to regular, offline people who are coming around. they’re saying it to people who are engaged in professional political analysis who committed professional malpractice by scolding people who saw what was coming.

no, those people shouldn’t get a break.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

I'm struck by how undeniably correct this is. If Trump did these things, the media and "centrists" would IMMEDIATELY buy it, and start calling everyone else 'woke' and 'unreasonable' for daring to say things like "fuck ICE."

And it's equally clear Trump that is COMPLETELY incapable of this.
the smartest thing to do right now would be to make a show of disciplining some ICE agents and quietly pull back from minneapolis. the president offers his condolences and maybe even makes a direct donation to the family. you fire bovino and replace him with someone more quietly depraved, etc.

Tim walz needs to active the guard under state orders to protect citizens from ICE.

If Trump federalizes them from under the Governor, this needs to go to court immediately as proof that the militia clause of the second amendment is violated

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

At what point does @governorwalz.mn.gov deploy the National Guard as a sort-of Peace Keeping force?

A bunch of non-ICE dudes walking around with of M16 out might go a long way to getting ICE to back the fuck down.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

"Aides to Todd Blanche directed the U.S. Atty’s office and FBI agents based in MN to shut down a civil rights investigation into an officer’s fatal shooting of Renee Good and instead alter it to probe Good for possible criminal liability, according to three people briefed on the discussions."
