🧵 I decided if I were ever to hit 1K followers it would justify an intro post. I'm a little shy of that, but gonna do it anyway. 🙂

I'm an unpublished, fledgling fantasy author. I've written one novel-length story, which I am currently querying, and I'm in the midst of the first draft of another.

Fayre Gabbro & The Flowers Out Back
for Kutu & Shanita

I’ve stayed in the front yard all my life.
I want to peek at the back
Where it’s rough and untended and hungry weed grows.
A girl gets sick of a rose.

she watched her mother feed on weeds, the roses out back
growing rough, just as the sentinels intended, but Gabbro
grew tired of such sickness, this cultural illness passed down
through generations like a family crest, as sword & shield—
the societal balm for the provocation of her natural beauty.

warning, “best to be their prized mule and they will love the
labor of you, but, woo-chile, never be the virgin bride riding
bareback or the-unicorn-they-can-see; the poetry of those
poachers will call your teat milk ‘gamey,’ your Hottentot ass
mounted in the Freemason’s Hall where all within is lumber-
jack’s plaid & hunter green with armchairs of grotesque leather
and yet not a crinkle of your hair to be found in the boudoir
of the chalet with the furbelow and the arabesque bagatelles.”

neither yah-mule or The reproductive mare, but
The Lady Gabbro: The Blithesome, The Beauteous,
Our Maiden Most Sincere; the decolonizing third-act
occupying the restorative nature of privilege; explorer
of provisions hidden deep beyond the pale.

the darkest aethers of phantasia reclaimed / destroying
The Classicists and their dominion of Onceness,
upon which Time is a vassal / this oppression of rubrics . . .

They entered through the side door of the Folly, directly into the common area. She could smell the familiar aroma of the kitchen. Her stomach vibrated noisily and her mouth moistened.
The common room was about half full of various patrons. She stopped in her tracks for just a heartbeat before carrying forward. They’d had the exclusive use of the building when they were here last—she hadn’t even stopped to consider that they would be barging in to an unknown crowd.
Lesin silently cursed herself for the lapse. But she needn’t have worried.
“I cannot believe it!” A boomy tenor voice filled the room. “Nivie and Lesin! Welcome, my friends!”
The floor shook as Fallah, the owner, strode powerfully across the room to greet them. He was a huge man in early middle age. His black beard had little grey, and spread impressively to cover nearly all his massive, if somewhat blubbery, torso. He’d likely been hugely muscled in his youth. He still looked powerful, just soft.
