We are getting in touch from the LNER Data Protection Team to tell you that a personal data breach has taken place.
What happened
On 8 September 2025 we were told that one of our suppliers, who manages our customer communication database, had suffered a security incident. A third-party gained unauthorised access to the supplier's networks and in the process gained access to customer data.
As a result of our investigation of the breach so far, we have concluded that the data included some personal information, specifically your name and email address.
No payment card details, passwords or your LNER account information were involved.
Our ticketing systems remain safe, and you can continue to buy tickets from LNER as normal.
Because your name and email address were affected, it's possible you will receive phishing or scam messages.

A ping on the NHS app. Hmmm. This doesn't sum up our conversation very well at all. Especially the last 4 words. (I assume noting that is a code to mean "he was very rude" and the GDPR means they're coy about saying so, especially as the encounter is filed under "problem".)

It occurs to me that the most likely thing is that someone input 0.78m and 173kg (BMI of 180) or something at some point and, despite the evidence of their eyes, nobody has ever questioned it. Or that there's an algorithm that is averaging my stats so I'm forever 125kg and 1.25m tall (BMI of 120).

Me: I'm a lactose-intolerant vegetarian with colitis who home cooks everything, goes to the gym twice a week and owns a border collie who requires long walks. I'm also 1.73m tall and weigh 78kg and can't even IMAGINE what your records say that suggests this is an issue.

I wasn't polite, I know that, but not once did I swear. My tongue hurts from biting it to stop the swears coming out. Proud of myself for that. The words "are you fucking joking?" kept wanting to be said, but I didn't.

Me: Obviously not, since nobody at your surgery is capable of listening or reading. I'm done. Take me off the damn clinic. I'll take my chances with my CLEARLY genetic high cholesterol. Enough.

Me: And it's clearly wrong. But once ticked by mistake, it can't be unticked it seems. So I can't even have an eye test without the optician telling me to lose weight. No, that's it, I'm done with you, take me off this damn clinic once and for all.

Fucking hell. After I came off the meds with no side effects that had crippling side effects, the GP pharmacist said she'd refer me back to the GP to discuss a different set of pills.

Just had that phone call. The pharmacist lied! She actually referred me to their "lifestyle and nutrition" nurse.

Merseyrail/Stadler kind of thought of that and put the sockets in upside down, which sort of helps.

And then included USB sockets as well, which have all been destroyed because people try shoving the live and neutral pins of plugs into them because the sockets being upside down is non-obvious.
