A MOLE TRAGEDY: the story of Derek, the mole who didn't like digging.

Listen to the latest episode of #neuroticliterature at pod.fo/e/3396d2 to hear how that works out for him.

Though there is a clue in the title.

I gather that Neurotic Literature is currently ranking at #1 on Spotify for the search term 'unsettling literature'.

Which is a result, right?

Too many of us wake to discover that the brave post of yesterday is the huge error of judgement of today. But for Ben, an unwise video is just the first step into an uncertain new world of online celebrity...

The brilliant writer and performer, @jameslark.bsky.social has his latest season of Neurotic Literature and it’s as intelligent, engaging and funny as ever. This story blew me away with its cold fury at blame culture and manipulative parenting.

The data centres being built now will be derelict by 2030.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

I don't think Heseltine is one of the great minds of our time, but even so it's hard to understand how someone with such clarity over what Reform stand for still feels comfortable publicly representing the party of Badenoch and Jenrick.
bbcnewsnight.bsky.social
“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

The Opposition and the party that’s leading in the polls literally have policies more extreme than the BNP 20 years ago
jdportes.bsky.social
David is slightly unfair. There is a clear difference here.

Conservatives and Reform plan to forcibly expel large numbers of people who are legal, permanent residents of migrant origin. The BNP proposal is voluntary.

This below is from the 2005 BNP manifesto.

Spot the difference with current Tory and Reform policy.

We’re rebranding with brilliant new artwork and a terrific logo for The Hamster Book Club - you’ll be seeing art for Benny, Ace, Compassion, Sam and more! In January, the Book Club will become its own podcast with fresh interviews, lots of exciting new episodes and all the old eps transferring!

For all of The Tenth Planet's obvious importance and its iconic moments, it's weirdly forgettable as a whole, and dramatically often verging on the inept. I'm nostalgic for the story I thought it would be when all I had was the clips on Cybermen: the Early Years. Hartnell deserved a better send-off.

It is vital that we work together to recover these missing episodes so we can settle it one way or the other, and also because shirtless Ben.

Read the synopsis of The Smuggles and it looks like it would be a smashing slice of teatime derring-do, so why is this another one that I can't remember a thing about? Could be the missing visuals, or is it just a half-hearted effort from a team not interested in historicals?
jameslark.bsky.social
I'll happily sit through it again and again, but it's check-your-brain-out-at-the-door Who, sold by great direction and charismatic leads (Ben and Polly are so wonderful), not by clarity of storytelling or Kit Pedlar's alleged scientific insight or, frankly, making any sense at all.

The War Machines has pace and is lovely to look at, thanks to Michael Ferguson who demonstrates an instant flair for this new trendy take on Dr Who. But - Bowie comparison incoming - it's a bit like Let's Dance coming after Scary Monsters. Superficially fun, but lacks the richness and depth we knew.
jameslark.bsky.social
Thank you - noted - and added to the to-watch list!
jameslark.bsky.social
The Savages is not the only one of this bunch that I have listened to several times but which has nevertheless left no impression at all. Undoubtedly some visuals would help, but there are missing stories from just a few months earlier that had a huge impact on me with little more than a soundtrack.

The gauntlet has been thrown. A less than favourable episode released on Donald Cotton's books released and @jameslark.bsky.social, in a fit of epistolary pique, decides to build a defence for The Romans!

In all honesty, it’s not rhetoric any more. It’s not narrative. I’ve experienced more racism in the last 4 months than I can ever remember. The wheels are off in the UK and it’s being led by 3 political parties.

('Does successful Doctor Who preclude the most imaginative use of the show's format'... future Hamsterbate?!)
jameslark.bsky.social
Oh yes, agree, and they had a really savvy approach to using a limited budget. We'll see again and again that the most interesting Doctor Who and the most successful Doctor Who rarely coincide.
