This Northern Leaf-Footed Bug (Leproglossus oppositus) has been hanging out near my front sillcock (water spigot) for a few days now. First I’ve ever seen. Not moving too quickly in the chilly weather. 🌱 #bugs

A 2020 study found that Amazon—which shares owner Jeff Bezos with The Washington Post—is one of the largest employers of people on SNAP.
As SNAP funds froze, mayors and governors have pledged to supplement the missing federal assistance, while federal judges ruled Friday that the Trump administration should use contingency funds to keep food aid running despite the government shutdown.
Uncertainty hits after vulnerable Americans woke up to a SNAP freeze
Amid a benefits pause, nonprofit groups plan to work extra hours to get food out to vulnerable residents, and local community members are also stepping up.

It's appropriate that this sentiment comes after the industry realized that they haven't done anything useful in 20 years so they descended into mass psychosis over tech that does nothing but purports to do everything

Tennessee Secretary of Voter Suppression Tre Hargett thanks Trump for his helping in finding 42 “POSSIBLE” non-citizen voters… out of 4.3 MILLION.

IF true (big if) that would amount to .0001% of TN voters.

Even more proof this is not a real issue.

Was talking about these with my sisters the other day. Told them that I’m glad that in my old age I’m aware of my frailty enough that I no longer start any shit, because if I were still in my youth and some guy approached me wearing a pair of these I’d slap them right off his face.

Let’s be clear, most EBT users are white. The reason he’s specifically lying about “weaves” and we’ve seen so many AI fakes of Black women ranting about food stamps is they need to make BW the face EBT because they know many Americans don’t care if Black people suffer, and some actually wish for it.
ROB SCHMITT: People are using SNAP benefits to get their nails done, to get their weaves and their hair. This is a really ugly program.

SEN. RON JOHNSON: That program needs to be dramatically reformed.

These seem to be the three legs to the Trump regime's political stool, if you consider Trump, Vought, and Miller as the three centers of power:

Corruption (Trump)
Extreme conservative ideology (Vought)
Fascism (Miller)
"Dictatorship to protect corruption" is a plausible master narrative for Trump; it squares well with J6 in particular.

But it's not the same story for Vought, who supports dictatorship to deliver on a hideously unpopular conservative ideological agenda, or Miller, who wants it to do legit fascism.

This is part of the war over How We Remember the Pandemic

Always remember the truth: it was a big deal, most regular people were sensible at the time, the anti-vaccine craziness set in late & has been trying to rewrite history ever since

Turns out the sweetheart deal that Trump's former Labor Secretary Alex Acosta gave Epstein back in 2008 was even worse than we thought. Epstein's emails show Acosta tanked an investigation that had Epstein dead to rights on money laundering, and other financial crimes.
🚨 EXPLOSIVE NEW investigation: We uncovered previously undisclosed details about an 18-month money laundering investigation into Jeffrey Epstein that took place alongside the 2007 sex crimes probe, according to emails obtained from Epstein's personal Yahoo account

I'm going to do a follow-up on this post about more of Epstein's threats to the media and journalists.

The head of a dead cat was left outside Graydon Carter's NYC home.

Plus the threat of an actual bullet.

All to silence Epstein's child rape.

Same as Trump is doing now.
🧵For those who don't know, Vanity Fair could have exposed Epstein and his child raping back in 2003.

Graydon Carter was editor then, and Vicky Ward did this article on Epstein.

But they wouldn't publish the sexual-abuse allegations because of threats from Epstein.

Letters to the editor and call-ins to live radio were screened, selected, curated. But not comment sections on news stories. Thus began our internet-fueled epistemological decline.

I haven’t heard it put that way before, and I like thinking about it.
My longstanding unpopular stance is that the beginning of the end was comment sections on news stories. The day we created this false narrative that everyone is entitled to "weigh in" on literal facts, we created the conditions for this BS where you have to "hear people out" or you're censoring.
The era of “you’re all under a moral obligation to elevate the worst stances and treat them as acceptable” has not produced good results, but if we do it even more, maybe the positives will start to appear.

Such a good point here from @davekarpf.bsky.social: If Dems don't engage forcefully enough on Trump's terror raids, Trump/MAGA propaganda filters down to the "inattentive public" and risks persuading people this is normal and acceptable.

Of all the dumb Trump apologetics, sanewashing, and support for a fantasy version that diverges from the real thing, "no new wars" might be the single dumbest.
He was already president! To know it's BS, just look at what he repeatedly says and already did.
And yet, some really wanted to believe it.
