It's cool how we keep proving over and over and over again that there's a significant market for narrative-heavy, character-driven, single-player experiences in video games and publishers just categorically refuse to believe us
furious at this, but not unexpected given how badly the devs were treated making RDR2
BREAKING: Yesterday Grand Theft Auto VI maker Rockstar Games fired dozens of people, all of whom were involved in union efforts. A British union calls it "blatant and ruthless" union-busting. Take-Two Interactive says it was due to misconduct.

AI can be a useful tool, if used sustainably, ethically, and selectively.

im also at a crossroads with it, because vocaloids didn't replace singers, and have found a way to coexist. i strongly fear capitalism will ruin AI on the path that it's on now, but (real) art usually prevails
dynamic voice lines are tough and historically expensive, and when done "the old way" you get a lot of immersion-breaking repeat lines. im all for finding a solution to make it easier + cheaper to do, while also making sure actors arent pushed out of their jobs and the environment isn't lit on fire.
kotor 2 has maybe the most interesting villain in all of star wars, enjoy!!!
the problem with being fully anti-anything artificial intelligence is that it isn't specific enough to target the actual harm, imo
i really wanna know the details, because from your description this tells me it isn't a cloud based LLM or gen AI system, which are the real culprits. feels more like applying an FX chain?

i agree they should hire actors instead of doing it in house, but im cautiously intrigued.
i actually didn't know this part, that's very interesting and falls a bit more into a grey area for me.

this is reminiscent of people complaining about "autotune" when folks have been using melodyne/pitch correction for decades now and people have had no idea. it cuts comping time in half.

For gamers who aren't in game dev, you should know that we are in one of the worst periods in game dev history in terms of industry stability and the reason you're not seeing that play out through products is because the average development window of games is 3-7 years so it hasn't reached you yet.
