Oh no. So sad.

Interviewed him many times at Hants press days.

Hell of player. Can still see his cut shots off the pace bowlers. So strong.

Ashes 2nd Test preview: Brisbane’s Gabba brings us the pink ball, under lights, on the fastest pitch in the world. Will England’s batters be ready? How about Australia’s?

And Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington by his title?
Why do we always refer to Horatio Nelson by his surname but Napoleon Bonaparte by his first name?

If in the UK, BBC radio 5 sports extra has commentary on the England Lions match in Canberra, and the WBBL on sports extra 2.

A little late as post parkrun, but they're still going!

Listening to The Rest is History’s series on Napoleon, and I like to imagine that Admiral Collingwood is actually Paul Collingwood.

I’ve got the pink ball out so the baby can get in some preparation ahead of the day/night Test. It’s slightly worrying that she’s getting more practice than the actual England team. #theashes

This did not age well.
England have never lost an Ashes Test in my daughter’s lifetime! (Four months)

Why oh why does the baby happily sleep 3h between feeds when I’m up all night listening to the Ashes, but wakes ever 90min once the Test match is over?

It’s quite nice not setting the alarm for 2:19am. #theashes

No batter has ever scored less than zero in a test, but Crawley against Starc with the pink ball might just be the man for the job. History beckons. #TheCricket

I think that’s fair. A match for which five days is budgeted wrapped up within two days does feel like it’s not going precisely as maybe you might hope. Some terrific bowling, Australia are unusually fragile with the bat, England traditionally fragile with the bat.

As an occasional watcher, and someone just following by text, would it fair to say, what the fuck was that match? No-one could bat, and then one guy was really good at batting and wrapped the whole thing up in an hour?

Positives for England to take out of this Test:
The bowlers won't be tired.
Every time they get dismissed playing an attacking shot in this series they can say they were trying to emulate Travis Head.

Test matches such as these present a case for adding a third innings per side to stretch the game out to five days or even four. Discuss.

So who do we think for Man of the Match? There were so many contributions, it really was a team effort, it’s hard to pinpoint one outstanding player… #sarcasm #theashes

I think with the over rate point penalties it really will be 6-0

I went 6-0. I figured the last test would be so humbling it would count as 2

It’s almost like all the pundits have never experienced an Ashes series in Australia before. #theashes
I’ve listened to a load of podcasts about Day 1, and I think we’re all being too positive. Yes, England are probably ahead at this point but at one point we were right out of it. I believe they are still more than capable of screwing it up. #theashes

That’s the first step towards my predicted 5-0. #theashes
