Fragments of historical research, people and events, I write about Southeast Europe, World War II on the margins; medieval studies and urban history
'How many veterans have you deported? ' wasn't on my Bingo card, to be honest.

I'm looking for literature on cities during civil wars, such as those in #Beirut, #Damascus, or #Sarajevo. I am interested in historical sociology, microhistory, and military history. #History #War #CivilWars #Sociology #UrbanHistory

The New York Times writes that the US spends $2.7 billion daily on defense needs; this, they write, buys indolence, sluggishness, and a sense of false security.

#Trump approved the sale of advanced nVidia chips to China; every day more material for impeachment is piling up.

This wildly tacky World Cup draw is a grimly fascinating preview of what happens if the aesthetics of fascism finally get their way.

Please, once again, I ask for help in collecting the materials published so far; my friend needs them for work on a study. #Ukrainian sources would be especially helpful. #Ukraine #UkrainianChildren #RussianWarCrimes #UkraineWar
I need sources that provide detailed accounts of campaign of kidnapping and deportation of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories to Russia; NGO reports, lawsuits in Ukrainian courts, monitoring reports. I kindly ask #Ukrainians on this network to help me gather data. Thank you! #Ukraine

I think I would probably care a lot more about the National Security Strategy if we had an administration that actually cared about acting in line with their own stated policies

Trump's 'policy' of presidential pardons shows that his regime is, above all, a kleptocracy. #Trump #politics

The right's now hegemonic argument that cocaine is actually a chemical weapon and that mere suspicion of having it on your boat justifies an order to kill everyone aboard is astoundingly insane

#Putin once again threatens Europe; he says #Russia is ready; a narcissistic criminal, so preoccupied with his place in history that he will be remembered as a generational loser. #Ukraine #UkraineWar

There is increasing information in the media that the #Trump administration has given Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro an ultimatum to leave the country or face a U.S. military intervention. #Venezuela 🇻🇪

'Color Revolition' is the central pillar of the Russian Propaganda. #Media #Trump #Russians
Invoking "color revolutions" as a boogeyman like this really goes to show how much these guys have cooked their brains on Russian propaganda specifically.
Sen. Eric Schmitt: "This is the language of a color revolution where you're calling on military men and women to disobey orders."

I feel like one of the most underrated explanations for what's happening right now in global politics is that almost everyone has lost their minds.

#Ukraine has carried out drone attacks on tankers of Russia's 'Shadow Fleet' in the Black Sea; facilitating such attacks on Russian operations could be the Western response to Russia's asymmetric warfare against Europe. #Russia #UkraineWar

Ordering no quarter, as Hegseth effectively did, isn't a newfangled modern war crime. It was understood as a crime as far back as the Revolutionary War. Washington threatened to do reprisals over it. The bad guy in 'The Patriot' is (very loosely) based off a British officer who was notorious for it.

Did Pete #Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, directly order the commission of war crimes? #WarCrimes #Trump #Law
