I maintain that this is the moment a lot of folks realise that they can just do direct deals with porting houses and marketing teams.
Publishers got used to low risk thanks to platform deals and crowdfunding. They need to remember that ‘absorbs risk’ is their primary non-replaceable role tout suite

"we shouldn't have to work for free on a game until it's nearly-done enough to get funding" and "it's the only thing you can really do so you should do it if you want to make games" are both true imo and it's shit but what else is there really to do that isn't just give up

i swear i'm not saying this to be a buzzkill but is anyone else getting tired of video games, books, and animation being treated like lesser precursors to the Real Art that is live action feature film
Sadly I don’t have any (yet), but I can say that I was well ahead of the curve on knowing about Digital Circus, even if I was behind on watching it, because I’d been following both the lead producer and the head animator for separate reasons for years
