Jupiter says trans rights
when i was
a young boy
i happened
to bump into a traveller
come from an antique land
he told of
two legs vast
and trunkless
beside a shattered visage
deserted on the sand
the sculptor
well read those
cold passions
they long outlived the ruler
the boasts that he had made
(1/2)
a young boy
i happened
to bump into a traveller
come from an antique land
he told of
two legs vast
and trunkless
beside a shattered visage
deserted on the sand
the sculptor
well read those
cold passions
they long outlived the ruler
the boasts that he had made
(1/2)
They fuck you up, your King of Kings.
They may not mean to but they do.
They leave you trunkless legs of stone,
And add some visage, just for you.
They may not mean to but they do.
They leave you trunkless legs of stone,
And add some visage, just for you.
Whose land this is I do not know
The statue fell down long ago;
No one will mind me stopping here
To watch the sand o’er ruins blow.
My camel friend must think it queer
To rest with no oasis near
And precious little shade these days
Gives Ozymandias, I fear.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

There’s a concept in transport planning called “induced traffic”, which is essentially the evil twin of “if you build it, they will come”.
What cars did to your city, AI will do to your brain.

Once again, I rage against the dying of the light. Also this week: some maps to show that England is not concreting the countryside; and the longest conveyor belt in the world.

16 years ago, I found myself in the back garden of a couple I'd just met, as they showed me their pillow fighting arena. The lesson they taught me about games - especially competitive ones - has stayed with me ever since, but I forgot to mention it in interviews when asked if competition is bad. So:

1804. Oceans are now Battlefields.
In the South China Sea a British convoy worth almost £1bn today is spotted by the French.
It should be a massacre.
Instead, Commodore Nathanial Dance is about to defeat a French battle squadron using some paint and the most overplayed hand in #navalHistory. /1 🧵

Allow me to keep you awake at night with news of the naphtha engine, which - because steam was dangerous and therefore highly regulated - simply replaced steam with heated petroleum vapour. No pesky certificates or safety regulations required!
What could possibly go wrong?

This response from @sbearbergman.bsky.social to @hildur.bsky.social’s post has changed my week— it is so wholesome, and human, and so the energy we all need right now. And Kerstin Langenberger, the naturalist who posted “I am on my way with the necessary equipment”? This woman is the hero we need.
