I missed the fun yesterday but you bet I’m bouncing to hear about new US editions of the Dominion of the Fallen trilogy coming out next year. Fallen angels, a magical apocalypse, haunted Paris, politics and shapeshifting dragons collide in this atmospheric trilogy by @aliettedebodard.com

Seconded. It's lazy tv / film making that just says fuck you to a portion of your audience.
Flashing-goddamn-lights.

Slapping "this game has flashing lights that may affect photosensitive viewers" isn’t accessibility or inclusion, it’s just hammering a "danger: well" sign and walking away in a self-congratulatory manner.

You don’t need strobe effects.

It is the finale of our ScifiMonth read-along of this modern classic. Fair to say we have relished the read and the discussions, as it was an almost unanimous YAY when the question was asked about continuing the trilogy in the new year. Consequently this isn't the last week of the Radch read-along - just the last for now...

Today is the 10th anniversary of me launching There's Always Room For One More. TEN YEARS. I might rewatch Grosse Point Blank tonight, but first: come find out how our reading tastes compare as I share 40 favourites that are standing the test of time
10 years, man. 10 YEARS
Today is the tenth anniversary of me becoming a book blogger and launching There's Always Room For One More. TEN YEARS. There's a lot of Grosse Point Blank vibes today, without the assassinations. I copied across a lot of older reviews from LiveJournal and LibraryThing, but this is the big day for this blog. I'm surprised and delighted and proud to still be here, however inconsistently, and hugely grateful to my regular readers and bookfriends who have made this such a rewarding hobby.

Hit me with your recs. if you're going crazy with anticipation for something!

We got a big plot reveal and a devastating development at the start of this week, which means it's spoilers all the way down as I discuss week 3 of Ancillary Justice #ScifiMonth2025
Ancillary Justice: week three
We got a big plot reveal and a devastating development at the start of this week, which puts Breq's actions in clear context. With Seivarden stepping out of her sulk to start developing as a character, there's lots building up as we approach next week's climax. Read on for discussion, expect spoilers!

71% of 2025 Labour voters are strongly opposed to Reform.

And immigration has fallen 50% in a year.

What possible reason is there for this mess?

Somehow, we're halfway through November and while Palpatine has (thankfully) not returned our #ScifiMonth Mission Logs have! Come find out what the crew have been up to and check out their reviews and recommendations.
#ScifiMonth Mission Log: one
We promised a casual ScifiMonth this year, but that doesn't mean we're not monitoring comms and standing by to boost the signal. Lisa and I will be doing 2 logs this month: today, we're revisiting the posts from the first two weeks and we'll be back at the end of the month with a final round up.

It's the 2nd week of our #ScifiMonth2025 read-along of Ancillary Justice and my memory is a sieve. It's like reading it for the first time, which is both AWESOME and hilarious as I've now read further and seen how wrong I am :D
Ancillary Justice: week two
Week two saw me go from half a chapter at bedtime to mainlining chapters to find out what happened (I've zoomed halfway through week three's chapters now) and realising I was going to need to write notes to keep track of what thing happened on what planet. Dammit, when did I stop just absorbing that sort of detail like oxygen?

This year's #ScifiMonth read-along is Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. I'm excited to revisit the Imperial Radch - this week, we're discussing the first 6 chapters
Ancillary Justice: week one
This year, we're returning to Ann Leckie's much-awarded debut for our ScifiMonth read-along. The Justice of Toren is a Radchaai troop carrier, bringing her cargo of ancillaries - once-human soldiers, now mere bodies slaved to her consciousness - to its new conquests. Trouble is stirring at the empire's edges that will one day lead to sole ancillary leaving the Radch in search of a weapon that can kill its millennia-long leader Anaander Mianaai.
