I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

The Atlanta Olympic bombing was 1996. The Oklahoma City Bombing was in 1995, the Branch Davidians were 93. It's not so much 'calm' as we definitely choose forgetting and change the definition of political violence on a whim.

There were more than 120 domestic terrorist attacks, in which there were 11 murders, in the United States during the “relative calm” of the 1980s and 1990s. They just all happened to be at abortion clinics, so I guess those don’t count.

For those old enough to remember it: How did America get from the assassinations of the late 1960s and the political violence of the early 1970s to the relative calm of the 1980s and 1990s?
