A Gothtober montage of covers by my favorite illustrator of gothics, George Ziel 🦇🖤 He was born in Poland in 1914, survived the Warsaw Ghetto & Dachau concentration camp, then came to the US where he had a highly successful mid-century career as a pulp illustrator

Obscure YT of the day: the excellent MAN WITHOUT A COUNTRY (1973) about a court-martialed exile. Delbert Mann (MARTY) directs. Great cast: Cliff Robertson, Beau Bridges, Robert Ryan, Peter Strauss, Peter Weller, Geoffrey Holder.

Great thread on multi-camera TV.

I think partly this is down to the absolute obsession with realism, often to the exclusion of all other forms of expression. Anything even slightly heightened or, god forbid, theatrical is seen as dated.

The death of multi-camera TV: a thread. I know most of you will know the technical parts of this (and may have read it in the other place) but bear with me. 1/ 🧵

Extraordinarily beautiful, mesmerising, fine-spun performance of one of Eliane Radigue’s earliest (pre-synthesiser) works. After this, in 1964, she would not return to acoustic composition until 2011.

I'll be at this year's Square Eye TV, introducing an ultra rare screening of the 1975 adaptation of Poe's Imp of the Perverse, starring Michael Kitchen and Lalla Ward.

Also screening is the magnificent A View from a Hill from 2005, followed by a Q&A with writer Peter Harness.

Details:

In 1919, a tank holding approximately 13,000 tons of molasses burst in Boston. The burst released a 25 foot tall wave of molasses that ripped through a Boston neighborhood at 35 mph (56km), destroying a number of buildings, injuring 150, and killing 21 people.
