All right, Christmas movies that are not on this (terrible) list… 🧵

Would you read the new Danielewski even tho it has shaved gs? I'm somewhat tempted, but now am even more tempted by the Elkins book
Finished James Elkins' Weak in Comparison To Dream, which I highly recommend. Had meant to tackle Danielewski's latest as I need immersive big books right now, but he kept shavin g's off and that taint right. Anyhow, the Elkins is deranged, hilarious, tragic, boring, dark, sardonic, nutso, beautiful

I'd probably read just about anything he recommends
Happy Holidays! Every day until Christmas, I'll use this thread to rec a book to help you with your gift list. Let's start with THE TWENTY DAYS OF TURIN by Giorgio De Maria, translated by Ramon Glazov, and republished with a foreword by moi. Buy from your fav indie. (Alt text = more detail.) 1/?

I had a dream about this pen last night, and in my dream the tape was being used to keep the cap on the other (writing) end
Somewhat notoriously, Dad loved all sorts of pens, including the Parker Rollerball.

To this day I have no idea why he taped the cap on the end.

Good piece. Hard to remember the absolute shower of shits that were culture secretaries under the Tories, who left the library to sink under attack because all populists hate cultural institutions
I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?
The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity

My run in the forest yesterday was fully autumnal and lovely with only a bit of mud, and lots of firm ground and colourful leaves; very little fog & dark. But the fog and dark were there, lurking, waiting to move in, which only added to the atmosphear
