I've ranted about LLM "AI" elsewhere, and in replies, but to reiterate it in a thread that I can pin now:

One of the fundamentals of computer science is "Garbage In, Garbage Out". I learned this as a child, learning to program, over 40 years ago.

You cannot put bad data in, and get good data out.

Please note that any "centrist" pundit who blithely discusses the "merits" of arguments for eliminating birthright citizenship is either a fascist enabling fascism or a clueless clown enabling fascism.

It’s not just land animals you need to worry about in Australia…
The Tasselled Wobbegong is a master of disguise that can eat a fish almost as big as itself in one gulp. It's classified as a shark, but when it lays on the sea floor it looks like a harmless rug if you manage to see it. But with powerful jaws and sharp teeth they are no fish to mess with.

I’ve been thinking about the intellectual and affective labor involved in reading AI Generated student papers. I’m forecasting a little of the proposal that @cnygren.bsky.social and I advance in a piece that’ll be out soon but here’s where I’ve personally landed (o speak for myself not for us both):

What should you do when you write something in which no pun was intended, then you realise it contains a pun, which you wanted have intended, had it occurred to you five seconds earlier, and now it’s Schrödïngër’s Pun?

Last night my 13yo messaged me to tell me they missed me, and asking if they could show me a YouTube intro video they’d created and edited in Vegas for their 12yo friend’s Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel.

I suggested waiting until I got home today, because the WiFi wasn’t great.

The White House’s insistence on using Sabrina Carpenter’s work and image to promote their crimes against humanity is also them appealing to their base, which already uses technology to try and humiliate and puppeteer the likenesses of women who have autonomy, success, and visibility in public

I’d really like to know what the difference is between the endone at the hospital and the prescription endone from the pharmacy.

The take home pack pills are considerably larger, and also seem to have somewhat less of a kick.

A lot of people ask why deepfake sexual abuse is legal—in theory, it’s not. But why perpetrators aren’t often held to account follows the exact same patterns of inaction regarding all forms of sexual abuse

Slightly awkward moment with the urologist this morning:

Him: "OK, so we're prescribing anti-inflammatories that are suppositories..."

Me: "I'll have to boof them. OK."

The look that crossed his face was indescribable.

Ticked up to 50% today.

Terrible times ahead.

These are valid points, but a genuine question (not snarking at the WGA): how exactly is this different to a Skydance acquisition?

These points would be equally as valid there?

I think that merger should also be blocked (but wouldn’t be, because Trump).

I don’t know what the solution is.
The following is a statement from the WGA on the Acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Netflix.

The East Wing, coming soon.

Let’s be CRYSTAL CLEAR:

If a man born Chet Williams became Chet Anderson when his stepfather adopted him as a toddler, and Samuel Anderson as a young adult because he didn’t want to be named after the man who abandoned him, his name on that wall would be Samuel Anderson.
There’d be no question.
