John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.
Not mentioned is Maureen Tucker.
I found this article after @doughenwood.bsky.social quoted Iggy on Reagan. I like rock well enough but it is entirely believable that so many of its (white, male) lyricists would be attracted to the triumphal (often incoherent) polemics of the right. SAD.

Yes, when I worked there, they had a DigiStar II projector, which is probably what you're thinking of. Not as bright or sharp as the opto-mechanical ball it replaced, but way more versatile.
I worked at a planetarium that briefly tried to revive a few of their multimedia/electromechanical shows before moving to full-dome video. They kept using CRT projectors because LCDs didn't have a dark enough black to blend in with film transparencies.
This isn't about you know who or who you know. It's about putting my hand in Prospect Park Lake to take pictures of duckweed at sunset.

Camped at Tom Jones shelter in Harriman in 2020. Was very insistent with my buddies to do a proper bear hang. Disappointed to hear there are more bear encounters since the uptick of bad camping/littering since the pandemic. abc7ny.com/bear-attack-...
Yesterday I listened to a segment from the excellent signalhill.fm audio magazine, "Pie Down Here", where oral historian Robin Kelly listens back to recordings of interviews he conducted with Communist organizers in Alabama. A particular phrase from Nannie Washburn stuck with me: "I love people."

Writing up the 4 days I spent on my bike riding up through western MA and the Green Mountains. Researching AT shelters, somewhat unrelatedly. The Kay Wood shelter is named after a beloved ATC member and the plaque on the side ends with "Enjoy - Please Remember Others".
So is "Malwario" NOT a bad guy?
And also: "I love that large, heavy, dangerously powerful, expensive, antisocial metal box that ruins cities, lives, and the environment."
Relistening to Cindy Lee's beguiling 2024 "Diamond Jubilee". So unusually generous and beautiful. Within the first handful of tracks, I can't help but to hear little bits and pieces of "Here Come the Warm Jets". The first verse is reminiscent of "On Some Faraway Beach" lyrically and melodically.
Having worked for an older doctor, I can tell you that fax machine spam is very real.
