"Speaker Johnson, it looks as though the president is currently stabbing you with a knife. Do you have any comment?"

"Well, look, this is the first I'm hearing about it. As you know, I've been really busy not doing my job, so I just don't know enough about this alleged stabbing to make a comment."

Communities are doing their best—stepping in when the federal safety net breaks. But they shouldn’t have to. The USDA had contingency funds for SNAP, yet the Admin refused to use them until judges forced the issue. Trump chose not to act—inflicting pain on Dems rather than feeding vets & families.
Republicans run up the deficit and ruin the economy pretty reliably. So much for "fiscally responsible."
“every time theres a republican president the economy collapses” feels like pretty easy messaging on the economy
Congrats to everyone who put Republicans in charge "for the economy," the first three quarters of 2025 already had more layoffs than any of the years in which Biden or Obama was President except 2009 (when Dems were still cleaning up the prior Republican mess).

Some of the very best and most important political journalism of late has come from Lex and the team at Teen Vogue. Follow them all wherever they go.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I don’t think the tweezers will fix this one
Looking at you, Walmart, Amazon, and other corporations that rely on underpaid slave labor.
When the GOP dismisses SNAP recipients by telling them to 'just get jobs,' they ignore that 70% of those individuals are already
employed full-time.

When white people react with hostility to sharing space with Black and brown folk, they don’t care if those folk were born here, migrated legally, or are “illegal aliens.” They only see non-white faces who “don’t belong in their space.” This is why “ordinary concern” about migration is basic racism.
Conservative Americans would prefer not to have to remember when they were poor, starving, illegal immigrants who received SNAP from the local government.

Don’t take it from me, listen to Snopes! Speaker Johnson signed a bill to cut $186 billion from SNAP. And again, it’s HIS party that won’t help millions of Americans put food on the table this month.
House Speaker Mike Johnson signed bill cutting $186B from SNAP in July 2025
Users shared this true claim amid uncertainty regarding whether Americans would receive federal food benefits during the 2025 government shutdown.

Mr. Johnson, would you like California to withhold money that your state of Louisiana is using? LA is one of the Red states that use more tax money in federal benefits (like SNAP) than others, like Blue state CA.
Mike Johnson: "These blue states have abused the SNAP program just like they've abused Medicaid and so many other government programs."
