One thing I’ve had to realise recently is that when I go to play a video game my thought is ‘I wanna have fun for the next 30 minutes’ and somehow that is not what everyone else is thinking

We need to take away the word ‘cinematography’ until people learn to behave. No youtube reviews for six months.

I thought playing shmups so much would make me want to make one but I’ve really spent the past two weeks thinking about and planning a very small, 8 minute long beat em up. Basically I want to make devil daggers but with rank management.

I get this but I think radiant silvergun using in-game survival incentive to push you towards scoring/mastery *is* the thing that, among others, makes it a masterpiece. Silvergun without chaining and levelling is a real nothing burger video game
I really do think Radiant Silvergun's weapon leveling system is a massive bummer that completely turns me off. Incredible pain in the ass of a game all because it asks so much of the player before it gives literally anything back. honestly just makes me sad because the game's very impressive.

The question you need to ask yourself to see if a fighting game is good is ‘did something happen this round that didn’t happen last round, or game, or set’. If the answer is no, put the game down.
