I'm another departure from Lancaster University - contract will be terminated at the end of March after 35 years of stats and mapping. I'll be fine, am more worried about my colleagues' increasing workload, stress and fear of the Return of the Compulsory Redundancies.

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

Deciding how to oil/varnish this mirror. From top left, down, "Dark Oak", "Red Mahogany", Danish Oil (very pale), on the cross-piece "Tawny Koate" then antique pine on the RHS. I have lots of old leftover woodstains for some reason.

As a kid growing up in a working class home where "cheese" meant solid yellow bricks of cheddar, I never understood how cheese could be "a bit runny" in the Monty Python Cheese Shop sketch. Fifty years on, I've just got a spoon out of the drawer to deal with some brie.
