My lifelong love of mechanical watches was ruined by these people. I've seen the same people talk of quasi-mass produced trinkets as if they were beloved friends, valuing them more than actual human lives.

Nah it's cool, I can't see what's going on anyway (being blocked for some reason). You can specifically delineate the equivalent of a participle, but a lot of the "is going" or "has been" type qualifiers are implied by context a lot of the time.

Also, so many 4/8 character phrases

If you don't get the tonals just right it's very difficult for native speakers to understand you. I don't think I've ever encountered the actual "white guy speaks perfect mandarin" in real life, they're basically unicorns (and unless they grew up there genuinely impressive)

Syntax is very similar to English but all the participles are deleted. The word for he/she/it sound exactly the same and I'm convinced they only gendered the written character to reduce confusion

Chinese is literally my first language but I've forgotten so much from lack of practice. That said the Internet is so much better than the old-school dictionaries (which required literacy to use!) I had to deal with.

I can copy characters like an illiterate monk though

An Uber driver (not a white guy but still angling at the expat for finding women bit) asked me a bunch of stupid shit about how to make it in Taiwan. I had to remind him repeatedly that he had no marketable skills for a place the size of NYC, richer than Japan, with a college rate higher than the US
