Finished reading @sarahgailey.bsky.social's Have You Eaten and I've never been closer to crawling back to my lesbian book club. I imagine it'll pass eventually but right now, unless someone is paying me, I only want to be around queer/trans people for the rest of my born days.
My local theater isn't playing Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, but it IS featuring a 30 year anniversary run of the 1995 film CASPER, the theme song of which was the theme of the senior prom and I guess I'll shop for wrinkle cream instead.
Some of these nerds have never felt the rush of radicalizing a normie and it shows.

Jesus *Christ*, man! There's just some things you don't talk about in public!

I love that stupid movie.

For Tolkien fans, a timely passage for No Kings Eve, from WH Auden’s review of Lord of the Rings.
The Bluesky firehose is public. Everything you post can be seen no matter what you do. Blocking enforces the shun. It isolates people who get off on arguing and being horrible so they can only torture each other and eventually they get bored and leave. It's very powerful.
My little sister works in a rural nursing home and they currently have a 40+ patient COVID outbreak so wear masks tomorrow, Missouri. Protect each other. 😷

You have been blessed by Hannibal Katharine Hepburn. You may speak of the darkest topics in a patrician accent and wear pants as a woman

Curtis Silwa, apparently. I am but a mere Midwestern nobody, but I don't know her.
I'm not supposed to pay attention to the NYC mayoral race--St. Louis is flyover country--but I do love democratic socialism. But every time I see Curtis Sliwa's name, I think you're talking about JoJo Siwa and I am briefly very confused.
It was pretty widespread. If you follow any Latinx poets from around then, it happened constantly. People who grew up in affluent suburbs were told to write about THE BARRIO and shit. We still dodged racist, homophobic and transphobic advisors at the same time. It was a very weird period.
Advisors read our work and chastised us if we didn't focus on our minority status, whatever it happened to be. We tried to be "normal" and emulate literary fiction and we'd get hammered back into a minority genre. Desperate to prove my childhood trauma didn't define me and I got told oh but it does!
Aye. I have a few academic friends who aren't alive anymore because they felt coerced to create new trauma when their wells were insufficiently grim. The number of times someone with a happy childhood sighed at me and said I was so lucky. 😬 Nobody wants to inspect that sausage factory.
OMG I love you St. Louis!! This is the first time I've felt like this place is close to the good parts of old STL Twitter. I'M SO MAD I GOT SICK AND COULDN'T GO!
so many people on bluesky showed up to a hole in the wall in St. Louis to see my silly little band last night. this place has all the juice in the world
Tonight I saw @ekkoastral.bsky.social at the Sinkhole and they are amazing, loved them!

I think it *is* a good idea to pull aside people who spent several years hanging out in a nazi bar and go "hey dude, the way you had to act to survive hanging out for some reason in that nazi bar will make you really weird and off-putting when talking to normal people"

This is so embarrassing, mostly because the former sheriff is sitting around somewhere thinking he did a better job at being terrible.
