The rabbit, which the president later guessed was fleeing in panic from some predator, actually swam toward a canoe from which Carter was fishing in a was hissing menacingly, its teeth flashing and nostrils flared, and and making straight for the president. Carter was not injured, and reports are unclear about what became of the banzai bunny. But fortunately for Carter's credibility, a White House staff photographer made a picture of the attack and the president's successful self-defence. It was fortunate because some of the president's closest staff members refused to believe the story of the aquatic attack rabbit when Carter related it to them later. Their skepticism arose despite Carter's strong and oft-repeated promises never to lie. "Everybody knows rabbits don't swim," said one former doubter. Carter, stung by this skepticism from his inner circle, ordered up a print of the photograph to offer as proof. But even this was not good enough at first. "You could see him in the cance with his paddle raised, and you could see something in the water," sald the doubter. "But you couldn't tell what it was. Trump will pause ICE action in Minneapolis, likely today, and by midweek. He knows the killing of Alex Pretti looks like the violence he says he wants to stop, his polling numbers are shot, and Republicans face defeat in the midterms. His cabinet will be against yet his survival instincts will rule.

This show shocked me nearly six years ago. The daily lived experience of black Americans was so beyond anything I could have imagined - and these are the voices are relatively wealthy and successful people. I listen to this once a year now, to remind myself of my former ignorance.

I'm British and lived in mixed communities in London as an adult - I thought I had a fair understanding of race issues. After the George Floyd killing in May 2020 I listened to this episode of the Daily Tech News Show, given over to Black voices speaking of their experiences in America. I cried.
