Remember what matters. Our lives are short, but the future stretches out forever.
Everyone says "take care of yourself" but in my view, frankly, that is a juvenile approach to life. Take care of your children, of all children, of the future. Deprioritise your "self."
Their future is in our hands.
@gordjohns.bsky.social and I, circa 2012. We could just scratch out Harper and scribble in Carney..

If you read one thread on the MOU make it this one. This says much of what I’ve been thinking better than I could have and brings in more detail. As a Canadian I’m embarrassed for my country.
A thread on the MOU.

MOST IMPORTANT: Carney's move signals to the rest of Canada, and the world, that it's OK to keep building more fossil fuel projects.
Other countries will use this to justify doing the same.

Our children are watching, to see if we care about their futures. Do we? 1/22

This and Carney likely knowing that this MOU would likely be used for electoral victory for the UCP.
When the vast majority of progressive voters in Alberta chose him in defiance of Danielle Smith (for these very reasons).
“Values” indeed.
What does all this tell our children? It says that climate denial, racism, anti-trans, anti-vaxx, anti-Canada are all ok - do this and you too can be elevated to the "favorite child" position in the front seat of the car with Dad. 22/22

That's short term in my view. And yes, the law today. When most of the Heads of State and senior officials who committed atrocities in South and Central America in the 70s,-80s did their thing their actions were either not viewed as unlawful or covered by broad immunity/amnesty.
Patrick-
the U.S. president’s pardon power is essentially unlimited because our Congress has never attempted to constrain it, which is embarrassing and shameful.
Whiskey Pete will receive a prospective unconditional pardon for all federal crimes on the night before Jan 20, 2029.

Murder. This locks Hegseth in to the trump regime: keep trump/Vance in power, or face trial.
A simple choice which generates unbridled loyalty.

Undeniably, Canada has just stated burning fossil fuels is a good thing and they plan to do as much of it as possible. They couldn't be more wrong, of course, but that's where we are. Claims that this is a good environmental strategy are ludicrous. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/l...

what's that word that starts with "m"... ?
To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

The MOU is drafted like Alberta and Canada are the parents, and the other provinces and First Nations are the kids in the back seat.
The real problem with this Pipeline MOU, is that it's incredibly divisive.

Read it through this lens: it makes Canada and Alberta equal partners, and the rest of Canada (other provinces and First Nations) lesser players.

Look at BSKY tonight and see how much fighting it's already lead to.
