A forest-focused Bluesky account ought to have a photo of ... well ... a forest.

So, here we are.

The 1st 📷 I posted to my main account after migrating here. Apropos that it's the opener on the #ForestFriday page, too.

A chilly & foggy fall morning on the slopes of Mount Rainier.

This is the first forest photo I posted on Bluesky. March 18th. Just days after migrating over from the former bird app. 🐦 Well before I decided to make #ForestFriday a project. The photo is from a hike on the slopes of Mount Rainier. November of 2024. It was a chilly but crystal clear fall morning. Excellent lighting. Description: A row of three evergreen tree trunks to the left. More of the forest and a glimpse of blue sky can be seen in the background. There are ferns along the forest floor. Happy trails, my friends ✌️

I love this spot on Hindhead Common, near Gibbet Hill and the Devil’s Punchbowl, but it’s often very muddy.🥾 Puddles and mud on the way ahead. The sun is going down so I better get a move on and cross that cattle grid.

There are several places you can pull off on the road between June Lake & Mammoth Lakes along Hwy 395 in the eastern #Sierra & #crosscountryski on public lands roads, some of them groomed, & some not. This area is an example.

An autumnal view in the forest at Talkin Tarn Country Park, Brampton, Cumbria on a bright December day. Bare tall trees which are empty of leaves almost fill the picture with many fallen leaves covering the ground. The forest floor is covered with copper coloured leaves. There are also shadows of the trees on the ground. There are some dapples of light on the trees and forest floor from the low afternoon sun. The bright blue sky forms a clear background behind the tall trees. Talkin Tarn is a kettle-hole lake formed by the immense force of glaciers 18,000 years ago. Moving ice scoured and carved the landscape leaving glacial sand hills and a natural bowl, which filled with water as the ice sheet melted. The name Talkin is derived from the Celtic 'Talcan' meaning brow of a hill. The word 'Tarn' is Norse in origin, 'Tjorn' meaning tear drop or small lake.

A flawless sweep of late-summer blue crowns the valley, and beneath it the mountains rise like a grand, weathered cathedral—broad-shouldered, layered in ancient stone, their summits touched with a faint lavender glow. Two peaks hold the skyline with quiet authority, each shaped by centuries of wind and ice, each carrying small, persistent patches of snow tucked into their shadowed folds. Below that vast rampart, the forest gathers in a tapestry of greens: dark fir and spruce standing deep and steady, with aspen brightening the lower slopes, their leaves just beginning to hint at the season’s turn. The treeline rolls gently across the foothills before opening into the spacious meadow at your feet. The grassland spreads wide and golden, its tall blades brushed by sunlight into a soft shimmer, like a warm, windswept quilt laid across the land.
