The photograph shows two rounded growths known as ink galls lying on the forest floor.

Feature: On an oak leaf with small drops of rain Two yellowish-red spherical growths, known as galls, form on oak leaves. They are caused by the egg-laying of gall wasps, and a larva develops within them.
Galls are formed when a female gall wasp lays an egg in leaf tissue. The hatched larva secretes chemicals that stimulate the growth of the growth.
Within the gall, the larva feeds and develops until it emerges as an adult.

Although galls are parasitic, they generally do not cause significant damage to the tree.

Surroundings: The objects are located on the ground, covered with fallen dry leaves, pine needles, and moss. The trunk of a birch tree is visible in the background.

Historical significance: Ink nuts got their name because they were used in ancient times to make permanent ink.

A photograph taken at a low angle across a section of a human constructed pond/pool. Circular, visible are parts of the curve and the concentric lips/steps that are a feature. I understand it’s closed for the season but it still contains (presumably) rain water to depth enough that the windows and a person are nicely (to my mind) reflected. Most attractive though are the leaves floating in the water from a beautiful (possibly Acer) nearby. Some lay on the surface of the water with their stalks standing erect giving the appearance of masts on boats. There are a few out of the main body of water whose redness and shape is exquisite.

No but I do have a photograph problem, not hours on one subject but an urge. An urge whenever I see a thing, a shaft of light, an angle, a joke I can’t not pause. It slows me though and so perhaps keeps the mania at bay!! 🤩

A photograph of a portion of the Sainsbury Gallery in the London V&A that I understand to be curated, designed to give the appearance of a street. Albeit the prominent staircase in this image would have been an interior example. The wooden structure is largely intact, made of solid dark coloured wood and supported unobtrusively by metal, perhaps worked iron. Visible beyond are stairs leading to the Metal Works section. The walls and floor of this part of the museum are a mixture of smooth stone, creamy coloured bricks and adorned with further artefacts and added seating. Reasonably accessible as a result.

A photo of some small fungi taken on a mossy log. The ObsIdentify App tells me they are Mycena galericulata but it’s not 100% on that. To the right of the image are partially damaged faded green leaves still on their stems and more scatter the immediate foreground, brown and fallen and crisp in appearance. The fungi themselves are just under 10 cm in height at their tallest and with think stalks and pale brown caps that are bell shaped without the final lip/flick you’d associate with a bell. In fact they are a tiny bit frilled.
