Did u know?Folks say to me what do you mean by "no-dig"?Digging your soil regularly means baring its nutrients to the harsh sun to dry out;it means destroying its structure, where trillions of microorganisms & small souls take shelter, creating a balanced ecosystem that supports so much life. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🪲🪱🦠

The landscape was covered in a thin coating of ice, so when the sun rose, I had intended to capture backlit sparkle on the foliage that grows along the shoreline of Vermilion Lakes. Instead, the frozen lake itself provided a beautiful bokeh in the background for a dreamy effect. 🫧

Today was our inaugural wassail, with staff & folklore students waking the apple trees on @herts.ac.uk campus allotment with historic lyrics, the pouring (& drinking) of mulled apple juice & the hanging of toast on branches. Wake up, wake up, it's time to wake up! #uhwassail #HertsMAFolkloreStudies

I'm sharing this *almost* wonderful news from the Middle Marches Community Land Trust. They are now so close to hitting their funding target to purchase White Grit Meadows. Please can we see if we can help them get over the line? middlemarchescommunitylandtrust.org.uk/white-grit-m...

Fascinating world of ancient #glass: One of my favourite #Roman objects made of glass is this little basket (height 6.5cm). It is not clear what it was used for, possibly to hold cosmetics.

From Syria, dating 3rd century AD.

#PhantomsFriday A lady gathering ivy at Christmas in the woods near Rowlands Castle in Hampshire met a horse and rider who vanished when she looked away for a moment. It was suggested she had met the ghost of local highwayman Charlie Pierce, who died when he was decapitated by a low-hanging branch.
