You've done so well - I only have amphibians atm. Fingers crossed for me.. .

Good question. 😁 It's mud with lots of clay in it....used for cricket pitches, apparently, but just use mud, beans & straw instead. Bet it'll work just as well.

Did u know?Since we've been making bee hotels, our diversity of solitary bees has increased 10-fold.This is a mud nesting brick for Hairy Footed Flower bees.Recipe:cricket pitch loam, sand, straw. Poke holes. 2 feet off the ground, south facing. Plant Pulmonaria-they LOVE it.How fab is the male?! 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍🐝

Nature's drive-thru, or all-you-can-eat. 😁

Here are some I took of the bee pupae extraction & cleaning...You can only do this with the Mason bees & Leafcutters
cathhodsman.bsky.social
No. 😁Around March time, I take them back outside, for the new bees to emerge themselves. With some, I'll take out the pupae in Feb'ish and put them in a release box - that way I can clean any mites off them, clean them & assess that year's success. I'll see if I can find pics....

THIS IS FAB! I love the way you're using plastic pots to fill with material & to help keep it grouped within the gabions. Such a wonderful sight to see. 🙌

Did u know? We'd like to see if we can attract reptiles into the wildlife garden,to further enrich biodiversity. It'd be fab to get Slow worms,or even Grass snakes. To do this,we've just laid down two warming felt panels in a quiet part of the garden,to see if they attract the odd scaly visitor.🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🐍

Today (date), the Slender-billed Curlew was declared extinct. The first bird extinction on mainland Europe in 500 years — on our watch. Extinction is final. No going back. Think about that.

Thanks John. Yes, always good to have visual reminders when you have wild family sleeping.

Brilliant Keith. Are you able to take them inside for the winter?

Did u know? It's time to clean the old dovecote my hubs renovated to create winter hidey-holes for birds. The straw & moss is evidence they've been using it. As the spaces are large,we thought we'd improve insulation by adding organic wool. It also raises the levels slightly, for easier access. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🐦‍⬛🌍

In the UK we don't have bears, (I wish) but I know where you're coming from here. It's about the small souls too ..

I can so-o-o relate to that. 🤣

Did u know?Winter prep for our wildlife garden has turned towards our bee hotels. The greatest enemy of baby bees is damp, which causes mould & mite infestations.I take them into my summer house where it's cool & dry.All sorts of houses & materials for all sorts of different bees.Note the sign.🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🪲🐝🌍

Not sure they're in my area - the vegetation on the common isn't wild & long enough, but we shall see...
cathhodsman.bsky.social
Ooo, you lucky thing. I see the adults, but not any larvae. ☺️🙌

Did u know? Newly emerged Queen bumblebees are busy feeding themselves with as much food as possible, to get them through the winter, as they sleep in holes/hollows/earth/grass. That's why every last summer flower in your garden is an important food source. Look at this magnificent lady. 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍🪲🐝
