We believe the 52 fingers we counted popping up in a patch of the front 'lawn' are Clavulinopsis fusiformis, a fungus in the family Clavariaceae, sometimes called Golden Spindles. These tiny, bright yellow fruit bodies of the fungus grow in dense clusters on the ground in unimproved grassland, apparently. They are appearing in our front garden among the green grasses and wildflowers.
