I prefer “anti-fascist“ for a host of reasons and this is a nice practical one.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

It's only fairly recently I've discovered that a bunch of people don't feel joy when people around them feel joy.

I understand a level of sadness at losing out (I'm a writer, I know professional jealousy) but this is just weird.

I love seeing other people be happy. It makes me happy.

A big thing about people who think like this is that they don’t realize: learning how to be happy for other people is a HUGE step in the direction of learning how to be happy for yourself.
How that would help me? Because I already do that but the fact that I have nothing to celebrate myself make me just bitter in return
It's like clapping and be happy toward people about having cake without having ourself cake

Ok, did not expect “The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe” to feel quite so relevant to this moment.

Here’s Edmund, deciding to side with the leader who he’s been told disappears people.
He did want Turkish Delight and to be a prince (and later a king) and to pay Peter out for calling him a beast. As for what the Witch would do with the others, he didn't want her to be particularly nice to them - certainly not to put them on the same level as himself; but he managed to believe, or to pretend he believed, that she wouldn't do anything very bad to them, 'Because,' he said to himself, 'all these people who say nasty things about her are her enemies and probably half of it isn't true. She was jolly nice to me, anyway, much nicer than they are. I expect she is the rightful Queen really. Anyway, she'll be better than that awful Aslan!' At least, that was the excuse he made in his own mind for what he was doing. It wasn't a very good excuse, however, for deep down inside him he really knew that the White Witch was bad and cruel.

I hope the Hotel Shouters get a new hobby soon. Even leaning on the barrier almost all the time, this is my visible chart. The recovery days suck. I either have to stagger which ones I go to or I need to start taking my wheelchair, which puts other people at risk if the fash kick off.

Useful reminder for when you next hear a politician talking about derogation from parts of, or withdrawing completely from, the #ECHR.

I know I talk about this quite lightly, but that's a coping mechanism. They are weird and pathetic, but I am genuinely scared. Nazis being so open is a terrifying step, and we don't know who they're linked to. They followed me to my car yesterday to film me. We don't have the numbers we need here.
fionaswriting.bsky.social
After last week's Hotel-Shouting Team put up the 14 Words, this week one of us had a sign saying 'Nazi scum'. Their speakers this week included a man who was fired from the military for his neo-Nazi links and a fake priest who's been posting 88 in response to 14 online.

a cardboard sign saying Nazi scum with another sign taped below it saying Nazi is not a protected characteristic

Yeah, like they'll still kill a lot of people but god they're just cringe AF
fionaswriting.bsky.social
Any other crip protesters got recommendations for gear or solutions? My stuff is mainly kludged together but willing to invest a wee bit in things that might actually help.

(weird moment from today: a fash with a megaphone yelling 'you need a stick to walk! You are a disabled human!'
..... Yes?)
fionaswriting.bsky.social
If these protests are going to keep going I'm going to need to get a lightweight folding chair and adapt my signs - my hips and shoulders are absolutely fucked and I'm going to need the strong pain meds tonight. The colder it gets the more supports I'll need.

It's all very Kylo Ren - they're a long way from the scary monsters they're trying to imitate.

So the other guy immediately pivots to 'I'd rather be a Nazi than one of you'. And then they tried to complain about our sign again.

So that's where things are in Aberdeen.

fionaswriting.bsky.social
Then they moved venue and yelled at us that we just call people we disagree with Nazis, and we pointed at the actual Nazi they'd welcomed in, who immediately started shouting '1488! 1488! "The future belongs to me!" [Hitler youth song from the Sound Of Music]' and then a whole speech in German.

fionaswriting.bsky.social
So of course they sent the police over to us to try to get us to take down the Nazi scum sign because it was... Wait for it... a hate crime. Because they still think hate crime about insults and not harm.

So we added 'Nazi is not a protected characteristic'. And they got even more upset.

BREAKING: The Home Office is giving police new powers to restrict repeat protests like pro-Palestine marches.

Police can consider the ‘cumulative impact’ of protests on an area and could ban the protest / force it to move elsewhere.

This. Is. Why. I. Paint.
"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via Al video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people."

There’s also a big distinction between harassment of vulnerable people on social media & protest to powerful people on social media about how power is being wielded — and you’ve conflated that here. People complaining to you on this platform is almost always the latter. (I know there are extremes.)

It's been so weird lately - trying to get people to understand that not everyone opposing Israel is doing it because they believe in liberation and oppose genocide. People in general are so bad at working with any complexity.
