New Projector Short! Good Boy (not to be confused with the others ones) is a microbudget horror film where the director made his pet dog the star, where the canine POV gimmick is pretty much the whole show. And he is indeed a good boy. 📽️ youtube.com/shorts/iylkL...

Today's #LFF was a double of two films overshadowed by other exploring similar themes at the fest. I thought Jay Kelly was better than Sentimental Value, and H is for Hawk isn't even the best bird-themed grief movie when The Thing with Feathers exists.
filmbrainbmb.bsky.social
H is for Hawk: D is for Disappointing in this adaptation of Helen MacDonald's memoir, where Claire Foy trains a goshawk after her father Brendan Gleeson's death. Unfortunately too clean it's depiction of grief and depression, and while there's lots of lovely bird shots, it's rather dull. #LFF

Sentimental Value: Director Stellan Skarsgard wants daughter Renate Reinsve to star in a personal project, but has to settle for movie star Elle Fanning, in Joachim Trier's comedy-drama. Has it's moments, especially about dealing with trauma through storytelling, but a bloated run time hinders. #LFF

What an absolute treasure Diane Keaton was. Her wit never tired, nor did her style.

RIP Diane Keaton, 79. Credits include Annie Hall, The First Wives Club, The Godfather, Something's Gotta Give, Father of the Bride, Book Club, Baby Boom, Reds, The Family Stone, Finding Dory, Hampstead, Radio Days, Sleeper, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Arthur's Whisky, Poms, Manhattan, and more.

After the Hunt: A great Julia Roberts performance can't save Luca Guadagnino's cancel culture campus drama, where Ayo Edebiri accuses Andrew Garfield. Tries to hit every hot-button topic, but it says very little ultimately despite all the wordy, portentous debating. Reminded me of Eddington. #LFF

Exemplifying how powerful the film is, even one of the security people checking for phones started crying at the end. Easily one of the year's best films. #LFF

Hamnet: JessIe Buckley and Paul Mescal star in the origin of Shakespeare's Hamlet, based on Maggie O'Farrell's book, in Chloe Zhao's drama, that's heartbreakingly brilliant. Some fantastic performances from the young actors (Noah Jupe especially), this is an emotional powerhouse. Not a dry eye. #LFF

We can only hope this is the end of big budget films led by Jared Leto.

Craig and April start a romance, but Dr. Shark has returned to put a stop to it. The Baywatching on No Way Out is now public, please share!

My thumbnail for Baywatching: No Way Out. Craig and April smile at each other. Dr. Shark (a shark in a doctor's coat) sits sinisterly between them.

On 24 October, Forbidden Worlds will open submissions for next year's Genre Film-makers of the Future: Shorts Showcase as part of 2026's festival.

If you've made a short genre film (sci-fi, action, horror, fantasy), find out how it could be shown on an IMAX screen!

How come major film studios keep being like Jared Leto may have allegations, but at least he looks weird, stars in box office bombs, and is not a good actor

This means if you're in the UK and haven't signed this yet, please do. At 100k signatures they have to discuss it again.

Literally the least you can do!!

UK Gouvernment: Payment Processors Can Ban NSFW Content
According to the UK treasury, payment processors are in the right and the gouvernment has no plans to step in. This puts it in direct contrast to what artists and the UK games industry have asked for.

Genuinely think this is the worst film at the festival this year, in all likelihood. There was a number of walkouts, although I was surprised how many stuck it out.
filmbrainbmb.bsky.social
The Souffleur: Willem Dafoe's hotel manager is distraught to learn it has been bought by Argentinians who plan who knock it down and rebuild it - although, frankly, that synopsis makes it sound coherent than it is. Plays like a film edited at random, like it was threatening to have a plot. #LFF
filmbrainbmb.bsky.social
Jay Kelly: George Clooney's movie star has an existential crisis and takes his entourage across Europe in Noah Baumbach's star-studded comedy-drama, which blurs Clooney with the character he's playing in it's examination of celebrity. However, Adam Sandler steals the show as his loyal agent. #LFF
filmbrainbmb.bsky.social
Bugonia: Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis kidnap Emma Stone believing she's an alien in Yorgos Lanthimos' remake of Korean film Save the Green Planet, which blends darkly comic absurdity with very dark nihilism. Often quite tense, as this plays up the conspiracy angle, maybe clouding the ending. #LFF

Some pictures from #LFF from the last few days.

Also a quick shout-out to all the people who've spoken to me the last few days. Probably the most I've ever done at the fest, so I'm doing a good impression of being able to interact socially!

I've had a day off from the festival, which has been enforced by the tooth situation. It has not been a good day.
