Th first person to teach African America studies here was WEB Du Bois (1948). John Cage was on the faculty (1956-1960). Martha Graham taught and workshopped here for many years, in a studio that's still in the basement at 66 w12th st. I want us to be a home for their c21 inheritors.

Possibly fruitful path for future research from B. Stiegler: “… the process of transindividuation is one of the concepts absent from Saussure’s structural linguistics: this absence will block its development, to the great detriment of generative grammar.”

If you're staff, faculty, grad or undergrad student, alumni, or other community member of any UNC system school, please send Peter Hans a letter opposing the mandatory public release of syllabi.

First amendment & academic freedoms aside, this policy could actively endanger instructors of record.
Oppose the Public Release of Syllabi!
On Wednesday, December 17th, members of AAUP NC from across the state met with UNC system President Peter Hans to discuss our concerns over the proposed syllabi release policy. This meeting is a direc...

This. So much of both the pro and anti AI discourse is so deeply onto-theological
a thing that has been bothering me about the anti "ai" shit is people saying the "ai" art is missing something mystical and unknowable, and expect me to agree with this plainly religious belief

A few of our most recent crises have been triggered in large part by wealthy people not having enough exciting places to grow their wealth and an entire ecosystem that exists to manage their frustrations
I think the only way to understand AI is that everything that has happened in the last 50ish years have led to ungodly amounts of capital concentration. The problem AI solves is that you can speed run burning cash and resources and it's less socially disruptive than a war
The Washington Post is launching a personalized AI podcast, saying users will be able to "shape their own briefing, select their topics, set their lengths, pick their hosts and soon even ask questions using our Ask The Post AI technology."

Lukianoff, in the NYT Daily podcast last week, seemed to be uncritically uniting opposed practices. One the one hand, taking a "Buddhist perspective" when dealing with personal issues while at the same time going all in on free speech. Aren't "right speech" and free speech in conflict?
