This is what all teaching is supposed to be, foundationally
Media literacy should be taught in every single American school, full stop. You don't need to tell kids *what* to think, but teaching them *how* to think is now a civic duty.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
Yes. This is how you do it.
Time is up. I gave Speaker Mike Johnson two days to swear in Adelita Grijalva. Arizona's 7th congressional district 813,000 Arizonans are now being taxed without representation. I have lawyers downstairs right now drafting litigation.

If you would like to be sad I recommend reading any feature article from 2014 or earlier. The undercurrent of optimism. The general lack of cynicism. The unspoken belief that the future would be better than the past

That's a world we all lived in
…these are writers that I ❤️ now. Much much more is needed to teach young people that Black scholars and thinkers matter and are a GIFT to the 🌎. Tell, tell, tell about them. Talk about them. Get those txts into classrooms. Get them into the hands of adults. It’s needed now more than ever.
I only began reading Black writers when I was 15. Angelou, Hughes, Walker. Later, was introduced 2 Morrison. Then, I discovered the brilliance of Chinua Achebe & Bessie Head, the poetry of George Elliott Clarke, & Zadie Smith. bell hooks, F. Fanon, P. Wheatley, A. Lorde & O. Butler came way later.
Got my Covid and flu shots today. So very grateful that I am able to access them. Chronic health conditions and the impact of COVID on the people who have them hasn’t changed. Neither should people’s access to possible life-saving vaccines.

Yes. Truth.
People still think they don’t need to read black thinkers to do their work. They’re wrong and their work is worse for it.
1 of my 12s from last year came 4 a visit. She says she misses home immensely (studying at Queen’s now). She says it’s wild that so much of who we r is tied 2 place & ppl. She said, u talked a lot about that in gr 11, but I’m living it now. So much of me are my connections & experiences. 🥹

Yes. Yup. Absolutely.
I was born in 1972. The replacement rate he's panicked about has been below 2.1% for almost every year of my life.

If you're really worried about the population falling, giving immigrants a path to citizenship is an obvious and easy solution.

Unless there's ... something about them you don't like?
RFK Jr: "When my uncle was president, the fertility rate in this country was 3.5%. Today it is 1.6%. The replacement rate -- in other words the amount of fertility you need to keep your population even -- is 2.1%. We are below replacement. That is a national security threat to our country."

“Young adults aren’t having enough kids” bro I’m employed full-time with a damn PhD and I’m struggling to afford both groceries and rent.

I love kids but I can barely afford my pets.

Want us to have kids? Try UBI, rent control, universal healthcare, cheaper child care.

For real. I honestly think a lot of that is because of how the Civil Rights Movement was taught in schools. “Rosa Parks, MLK, and Malcolm X marched and made some speeches, then the Civil Rights Act was passed and racism went away” basically sums up how we were taught in the ‘80s. Heads, meet sand.
It's really weird to have been a teenager or 20-something in the 1990s and then say in middle age with your entire chest "racism was solved back then, then it was brought back."
Never trust a man who can’t do his hair.

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.
This is real.
I think a lot of white people are discovering in real time how many other white people only have a problem with direct slurs and politeness

Not actual discrimination
Tough, tough thing. It sits w you. And we just do and keep on. No time to process and think and feel. Sending you strength.

“The Defense Department has confiscated the badges of the Pentagon reporters from virtually every major media organization in America,” the Pentagon Press Association said

Oct. 15, 2025
PENTAGON PRESS ASSOCIATION
STATEMENT
Today, the Defense Department confiscated the badges of the Pentagon reporters from virtually every major media organization in America. It did this because reporters would not sign onto a new media policy over its implicit threat of criminalizing national security reporting and exposing those who sign it to potential prosecution.
The Pentagon Press Association's members are still committed to reporting on the U.S. military. But make no mistake, today, Oct. 15, 2025 is a dark day for press freedom that raises concerns about a weakening U.S. commitment to transparency in governance, to public accountability at the Pentagon and to free speech for all.
