This is truly one of the most tone deaf pieces I've ever seen. The entire thing trying to make people feel like they're doing something wrong by not spending hundreds of dollars on a new phone every year... trying to pass that off as "harming" the economy.

It was Oswald and the Commission was thorough and in good faith, but only to an extent. It was agenda-driven and focused on enforcing a narrative that cauterized inflaming foreign relations. What it disregarded, ignored, and omitted in favor of that agenda backfired in the form of conspiracy theory.
We do know who killed JFK. The Warren Commission was an incredibly thorough and good-faith effort to prove and document what had happened, which they did. The conspiracy theories arose in spite of best efforts to avoid them, but there really isn't anything they could have reasonably done better.
My first political memory - exactly 62 years ago right now, a 4-year-old boy trying to understand his mom's tears - is still the biggest event in my lifetime. We still (IMO) don't *really* know who killed JFK, but we know the public's trust was shattered. It's a straight line to today's mess

What if the A.I. bubble “is an inevitable part of developing and adopting a revolutionary tool that will fundamentally improve productivity and growth?” Mohamed El-Erian writes.
Opinion | A.I. Is a Bubble. Maybe That’s OK.
Investors’ excitement rightly reflects the potential transformation of the entire economy.

I just quit on a post I was writing about this sort of thing, because there wasn't quite enough there, but it's worth noting that this sort of thing is unique to Dems, and loser shit/evil, but also stupid. None of these dorks will face ads in their home district re-election campaign about this!
These 20 House Democrats just joined Republicans in voting to fully repeal DC's police reform laws.

Wiping off the books critical laws on use of force, transparency, and preventing violent cops from getting rehired.

They think that they should have more say over DC police than the people of DC.

It's not just that the audience doesn't laugh at Maher's "joke" here, it's that they don't even register it AS a joke. They think he's still setting up a punchline. A truly remarkable level of bomb.

A guy makes ONE tiny mistake (has a years-long friendship with the world's worst sex trafficker; brags about sexually harassing colleagues; is racist; says women are stupid) and his whole LIFE is blown up (does slightly fewer speaking engagements; keeps teaching at #1 university)??!?!?!?!?!
So Harvard is keeping this guy, but Claudine Gay had to step down over ginned up plagiarism accusations and bad-faith accusations of anti-Semitism.

Got it.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

People love to go "I want to leave Spotify but don't know what to use instead!" when the answer is so incredibly obviously "buy the music, the way every person did until 10 years ago."

Calling childcare "goodies," like it's a decadent dessert -- Oh I couldn't possibly! ... Or could I? -- is straight up evil shit and if you think like this you got a fucking hole in your soul. Same with the "ice cream and ponies" shit they all pulled about M4A.
You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.

Over the years, I have met MULTIPLE people in the comedy world that were exactly like Matthew Macfadyen's version of Charles Guiteau in Death By Lightning.

If only we'd had long form improv in 1881, maybe James Garfield could have survived.

The Lowdown and One Battle After Another feel like they are in conversation with each other, and in a better media world there would be like a dozen blogs that would write pieces on stuff like that.
