Never give up, no matter what. Opposition doesn't against bad bills don't die, nor it should. You shouldn't give up hope in an instant. Hippies in the 70s DO NOT NEED the internet to stand against anything.

Resistance is hard with no internet, but it won't hurt to learn to resist without the net.

いつか終わる悪夢 I wish I had the answer. It’s a new horror show everyday. We were screwed either way. She pushed hard for Online Censorship with KOSA (Kids online Safety Act). Bad news many democrats and NJ Democrat candidate for Gov Mikie Sherrill are pushing hard for KOSA. That is the immediate threat.

Sometimes it feels like the rush to "blame the Internet" is rooted in our collective unwillingness to address the biggest issues that are impacting kids: the fact we're killing the planet they have to grow up on, their peers are getting shot in school, and it's unclear whether they'll ever get a job

If kids get their food stamps taken away becuase their parents are brainwashed by Fox News and Breitbart, that's "harm to kids" too. Maybe we need a Boomer Online Safety Act (BOSA) to address the harm of algorithmically recommending horrible content to adults? This is why privacy legislation helps.

Frustratingly, a lot of the proposed "kids safety" legislation would actually make most of these problems worse by entrenching Big Tech giants, enabling censorship of lifesaving online resources, and subjecting kids (and everyone else) to more intrusive surveillance. This is not the way.

I'll just add on to this that my other advice for parents is to recognize that Big Tech social media harm is systemic, not individual. There are steps you can take, but in the end we need policy solutions, like strong privacy, antitrust and algorithmic justice legislation. And alternative platforms

Teach them critical thinking, and that it’s okay to enjoy a piece of media while also critiquing it. Help them learn to detect casual racism, misogyny, etc in the media they consume without making them feel like they are “bad” for having watched or enjoyed it. Share your own experience with this

Be a safe person they can come to if they come across something online that makes them uncomfortable. Don’t make them feel like they’ll get “in trouble” because they were exploring or posting etc. Ask them questions about why they like the YouTubers that they like, listen to what they say

My best advice for parents re: harmful content: show genuine interest in the stuff your kid is watching and doing online.

Let them talk your ear off about Minecraft and Roblox and the funny video they just watched. Make them feel excited to share with you, vs making them feel ashamed or judged

The Kids Online Safety Act just got 18 more Senate sponsors due to Senator Blumenthal's new push (60 total). The passage percentage didn't change because a house version hasn't been introduced yet. People need to call their Senators and Representatives ASAP!

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.
