Doom is funny. I always felt like it was a little bit of a hat-on-a-hat.
Aside from a few Pentagrams none of the designs particularly scream "Hell" to me. If the demons were just aliems, it wouldn't make a whole lot of difference.
Granted, I LIKE the hell angle, I just think it's funny.
