The good news for Platner is that he has a *very* promising future as a right-wing culture war podcaster, considering he's being primarily criticized by queer people on Bluesky. I can see the book about how the left loves to cancel white men already.

If we can't find a single better candidate in the entire state of Maine than a former mercenary with a Nazi tattoo, then we may as well pack it in now. The whole point of a primary is to find the best person, and by all indications Platner is very much not it.

Well, that was roughly the time of the crusades, which is the first thing to come to mind. Byzantine court politics were in full swing, and Western Europe was in a period of decentralization following the decline of the Carolingian dynasty. It was peak knights and lords, think Game of Thrones.

My primary criteria for supporting political candidates are: not a nazi, a sex offender, a spineless fascism-enabler, or actively supporting a genocide. Why the FUCK is it so hard to find people who pass these, it seems like a pretty goddamn low bar to me!
