Even “progressive” leaders in America struggle with condemning the plan to overthrow the Venezuelan regime, which is fucking insane. That won’t be easy and have we not learned? Don’t answer that.
BUT- overthrowing Maduro won’t be possible without Colombia and we just murdered their fishermen.

We now know why the Southern Commander (in charge of Caribbean military activities) retired. The boat in Colombian waters illegally attacked by the United States on September 16th was a fishing vessel sending out a distress signal. All three were murdered on board.

It’s my belief that a majority of state governments, a majority of the federal government, our courts, and a majority of the people have chosen to support true fascism. This is not about HIM. This is the ideology that has grown FROM him.
He will be gone soon.

To actually overcome this we need rather extreme changes to the structure. SCOTUS, the Senate, the constitution. None of them have what it takes to accomplish that. This most likely won’t be changed through elections.

Nope nope nope and nope.
We get absolutely no where democratically without half (at least) of his supporters. This is a very different situation than we have ever seen and it will require a complete dismantling of the government. We will need super majorities in a super of all legislations.

Exactly. That’s exactly my point. I don’t see a way out of this in traditional democratic means. If we are truly defending democracy which I think we are, then this isn’t winnable on a ballot. No fascist regime has left in peace. That’s where I’m at.

Not a single one of them could form a national campaign. Those are the leaders of the left wing. They lead half the population. There needs to be a leader that speaks to more than half of them and all of us or we get absolutely no where. NOW- the response “how do you speak to people who want this”

And that scenario is only possible if we can vote our way out of this, and I am leaning quickly toward the negative on that.
When I call them fascists I mean it. No fascist regime has left power peacefully. Ever.

Yeah when it becomes THAT sure. But turing this around is going to take a person that appeals to a very large swath of voters. If we manage to replace him, there’s another thousand or so elected leaders to contend with, not to mention the tens of millions of Americans who want this.

Imagine what could be accomplished with an opposition leader.

This is happening today with no national leadership.
For anything to succeed I believe we will need that first. Where it will come from is not clear yet to me.
