It’s almost Small Business Saturday! And Takoma DC / Takoma Park MD have you covered. I love the Takoma Collective’s Market on the Street.

On Thanksgiving we like to give back to the neighborhood. Thanks to the 15 volunteers who joined me and @evanyeats.bsky.social for our annual tradition. We picked up 15 bags of litter, engaged young kids and high school students in service, and enjoyed good company on this beautiful day.

I was noting that this is my seventh year on Thanksgiving clean up and @erinpalmerdc.bsky.social has gone even longer.

When someone retires (or doesn’t) it’s a good reminder that part of our work is always training and supporting and building up others. Because nobody should hold a position forever, new energy is good, and young people especially deserve chances to lead.

Voters were clear that this was what they wanted. It’s a good program that expands democracy and the Board of Elections has told us they are ready to implement. It’s time to move forward.
Fresh off grilling elections officials at a hearing yesterday, Wendell Felder introduces a bill meant to delay the implementation of ranked-choice voting.

A similar push failed during the budget talks. And, FWIW, BOE said Monday it was on track to have RCV ready by June...

No need to delay: Not only did the Board of Elections clearly state that they are ready and capable of implementing ranked choice voting, but the voters already told us how they "assessed the need" by overwhelmingly passing it at the ballot box.
NEWS: Ward 7 Councilmember Wendell Felder is introducing emergency legislation that would delay ranked-choice voting, which is currently set to be rolled out in D.C. in 2026. His bill would mandate that Board of Elections conduct an assessment on what it would need to implement RCV.

I loved the buried RCV means no more one person one vote lie in Anita Bonds's newsletter today. Real nasty work

Just implement it. Constituencies rarely tell you with such clarity what they want. A government agency rarely says it's ready to go. C'mon.

Whittier Elementary’s Turkey Trot is happening this morning, and it was great to see so many students, families, and staff running, walking, and rolling through the neighborhood! 🦃💛You can still donate nonperishables to support families by dropping them at the school (6201 5th St NW) before 11 am.

The city has been twiddling its thumbs on what to do with the streateries for years now. Instead of these poorly implemented half measures they could’ve used that time to come up with a real plan to permanently extend sidewalks, create managed loading/drop off zones, and convert to sidewalk cafes.

NEW: The Court has ruled that the National Guard deployment to DC is illegal and granted a preliminary injunction.

As we made clear from the beginning: the US military should not be policing American citizens on American soil.

This is a victory for DC, Home Rule, and American democracy.

BREAKING: Federal judge rules that Trump's DC troop deployment is likely illegal — both as to D.C. National Guard and and out-of-state National Guard units — granting DC's request to block the use of the troops in this way.

The preliminary injunction is stayed until Dec. 11.

I‘m aware of the delays and inoperative phone line facing ERAP applicants this morning.

Residents dealing with housing instability deserve a system that reliably works.

I have reached out to the Committee on Human Services who is on the ground working to ensure residents get the support they need.

Emergency rental assistance has always been a shit show. And it’s sadly a reflection of how poorly we treat those among us who need help and deserve so much better.

You know what I’m excited for? The love stories that come out of the campaign! The people who met volunteering, were filled with hope, and fell in love. Hope people share those.
At our volunteer appreciation party, I saw the faces of a movement that changed the world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who knocked on a door, called a friend, put up a sign, or convinced their family this election was worth their time.
