I wonder if the magas boycotting the Super Bowl will measurably mitigate the spike in domestic violence that predictably occurs the weekend of the event every year.

That stoker preliminary ballot reminds me of the scene in the Shawshank Redemption when they randomly choose people to do the roof tarring job.

I finished the first draft of my new novel today. Definitely the most personal thing I’ve ever written. Maybe the most topical too. Takes place in an RFK “wellness” camp.

The retail model common in my youth was to work low level management to death with the promise of promotion and then burn out 95% of them and then replace them with whoever was next level down on the ponzi. It seems the tech bro culture is a table full of marks thinking they’re playing poker.

Listen, sneering anti-Americanism from online rubes from the husks of empires who think they deserve personal cultural credit for Mozart or w/e while drinking Coke and eating their national equivalent of dinosaur chicken nuggets IS annoying.

But we're absolutely, 100% asking for it, so just cope

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

Black Phone 2 is free on peacock and it’s still not worth the cost of admission. Tedious, terrible dialogue, bunch of nightmare on elm street ripoff done with less skill and it’s weirdly Christian. If you liked this movie your judgement is suspect

this type obscuring of colossal harm bc it 'looked nicer'

bc someone they find more appealing was its face

bc everyone floating above it due to a lucky station in life could tell themselves it was necessary, promise themselves *they and theirs* were safe from harm

Obama deported 3 million illegal immigrants during his time in office and I don’t remember a single scene like this.

This is correct. ICE is there in the first place because of an evidence-free racist conspiracy theory promoted by a 23 Year old YouTube propagandist. They manufacture pretext.
This is the thing about the "Don't give them the pretext to send in more feds" arguments. The administration is using its own murder of an unarmed civilian as the pretext to send in more agents. They do not need a pretext and will invent them if they want.

Your body doesn’t have special distinct stress hormones for hiding in a tree and hoping the bear doesn’t look up, or huddling in a trench under artillery fire, or scrolling through bad news on the internet.

All your brain knows is that it’s being dunked in cortisol for hours on end.
We are not meant to swim in a sea of stress hormones for months or years at a time.

Just existing and being aware of current events for the past five years has caused an epidemic of PTSD.

One of the core purposes of right-wing media is to rewrite your memory and reprogram your moral response to an event you saw with your own eyes. George Floyd died of a heart attack. Jan 6 was a peaceful picnic. This process has already begun
THERE IS VIDEO

I really do not want to recommend to everyone a video of a person being shot but there is video from multiple angles

why not cut the crap and just publish "this paper supports random state murder, it makes us feel good, kill kill kill"? same exact meaning, less embarrassing

I know a popular response to all this is to blame the hiring of all the j6 refuse. But I would argue what we’ve seen so far is actually normal for experienced cbp officers maybe with slightly less accountability. When the numbers really swell with the influx it’s going to be much much worse.

Trumpists will be giving the ICE murderer awards and recognitions and honors. That’s because (1) killing someone who thinks differently than they do is their fantasy (2) most of them are too spineless to do it but (3) by praising the murderer they can murder in a fantasy-league way

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.
