"It was always nice to hear one's work had caused significant anguish" might be the most KJ Charles line to ever exist. 🤣🤣🤣 @kjcharleswriter.com

No politician is perfect but sometimes you get an opportunity to vote for one you truly believe in. It's a hell of a feeling, particularly when you've got a lot of other people feeling the same way.

When I first moved to NYC eight (!!!!!) years ago, I was in AOC's district and got to vote for her. Last week I got to vote for Zohran in early voting. These are the two elections I was most excited about and optimistic to be not just a New Yorker but a US citizen, because of those votes.

After finishing a devastating memoir last night about a family fighting for their trans daughter's rights in NH, this win for my home state is particularly nice to see.
the-downballot.com
Democrat Billie Butler has won a special election for the NH House by a 55-45 margin, very close to Harris' 55-44 margin in 2024.

Butler, a trans woman, was the target of vicious anti-trans attacks by Republicans.

By contrast, I've read loads of books featuring trans men MCs but for some reason I've got a blindspot where trans women are concerned, at least in the fiction space. I've got tons of nonfiction but I'm more of a fiction reader in general. Also spend less time with YA so perhaps that's part of it.

Been making my way through my June TBR (99% queer obv) which led to a discussion with a friend about our lack of awareness of much fiction featuring trans women. I've read Lady For A Duke by Alexis Hall and Chef's Choice by TJ Alexander but can't think of other examples I've seen around. Recos?

House sitting for my mom while she's in Ireland and this is pretty much my whole experience so far. Heaven.
A small black and white cat laying on her back with a white person's hand petting her cheek. A calico cat with her head and front legs laying on a person's lap with a white person's hand laying on the cat's side

White knuckling my way through every day with the help of Bonnie Raitt, Cher, and every romance novel I can get my hands on. Finals season is here and I am also, somehow, here.

One thing about living in NYC is if you have a random craving for a Korean corn dog at 7:45pm, you can just go get one

Katie Pruitt in the indie/folk genre, she is one of the best songwriters and singers in the game. Writes a lot about growing up queer in the Bible belt. Just an immaculate artist on all counts.

I once ordered a taxi in Belfast for a night out. The driver pulls up to my house and just says "yer not going out like that. Go back in and change, I'll turn off the metre." | swear I was wearing normal jeans and a normal jacket. Matthew @MrWeir

I once wore a silver jacket to college, turned up late for class, said 'sorry I'm late', lecturer said, 'that's ok' then waited til I was halfway across the front of the full class before following up with 'trouble with the spaceship again was it?'.

I wore a suit with a matching tie and pocket square to my first day of work at an advertising company (I thought I was going to be in Mad Men I guess) and the staff sent around and signed a communion card for me with a fiver in it.

I wore a white, wool turtle-neck jumper to the match once and a fella in the pub said 'Where have you parked the U-boat?'.

I really tried to hold off on reading Emberclaw until after my last midterm test but I only have so much self control. I mean, come on. Dragons. Queer normative world. So much YEARNING. I'll be up until the wee hours, I fear. I loved Dragonfall (book one) but this is even better.
emilyredwood.bsky.social
Did my entire admin law outline yesterday and now realize the bullets are kind of off so instead of reviewing cases and actually studying for this midterm, I'm actively re-positoning all 10 pages of descending lists. I'm sure there's an easier way to do it but it is not within my knowledge base
emilyredwood.bsky.social
I don't even want to know the number of hours of my life that have been wasted reformatting bulleted lists in Word.
emilyredwood.bsky.social
So I will be participating in this, considering we just learned about notice and comment rule making in my admin law class and I just heard about this today. I highly recommend participating, time is winding down but it's wildly important and an act of resistance that's fairly easy to participate in

Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes.

You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment.

My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc.

This book used up all but one of my orange tabs. If you need a little hope, inspiration, some righteous anger, and/or a little kick in the behind to get to work in your own community, I couldn't recommend this more. Let This Radicalize You by Kelly Hayes and Mariame Kaba
