In the absence of anything approaching an actual uprising, Trump still threatening military action against American citizens.
Trump: "Don't forget I can use the Insurrection Act. 50% of the presidents almost have used that. And that's unquestioned power."

Mike Johnson sputtering that it's no big deal that he hasn't sworn in Grivalja yet, it's such a small stupid thing, why are you people still asking about it, I can do it anytime, but no, I'm not going to do it now, or later, or anytime soon, there's no big deal here, shut up, stop asking about it

It's less than 24 hours after 5-8 million Americans marched against a president who called them domestic terrorists, and there is zero reference to it on the current NYT home page, except for a Bouie op/ed that came out several days earlier.

One retiree said he chose to wave an American flag instead of a sign “because people who carry the flag do not hate America and as you can see there are a lot of flags.”

WE ARE TAKING BACK THE FLAG 🇺🇸

The 7 million Americans who took the streets for 'No Kings' made history, and they did something even more important

They got under the skin of Donald Trump and his dictatorial regime, on a day that showed that most Americans love democracy instead

A massive turnout of 7 million and a panicked White House showed Saturday why the No Kings protests matter, a lot.

Look, the Times was obviously unable to confirm at time of publication what the brown liquid that looked like diarrhea and that appeared to have been dumped from an AI-generated jet fighter by the president of United was intended to represent in his mind.
NYT sanewashing extends, apparently, to sparing NYT readers from a description of Trump's literal shit.

KARL: “Why haven’t you sworn in Adelita Grijalva?”

SPEAKER JOHNSON: “I’m following the Pelosi precedent with Letlow.”

KARL: “But that was the date Letlow requested.”

SPEAKER JOHNSON: 🤷🏼

Considering their headlines today, I think it's probably a good thing the New York Times only matters to people like me who already think it's mostly garbage.

“No public criminal charges have been filed against anyone in connection with the raid … The @chicagotribune.com has been able to confirm the identity of only one immigrant taken into custody by federal agents that night: a 41-year-old pizza delivery man … who has no apparent criminal history.”
They were already living in one of Chicago’s worst apartment buildings. Then came the ICE raid.
In what appears to have been a warrantless operation, the federal government will not say how many people were detained, who remains in custody and what happened to the children.

Favorite signs group #4 from the Champaign-Urbana, IL, No Kings Day event on 10/18/25 (always happy to see a Lebowski reference… the Dude would not let this unchecked aggression stand without comment, man). #NoKings

As a reminder to everyone, a key part of the Bari Weiss origin story is her livetweeting editorial meetings.
In the institutions she critiques she treats leakers (including herself) as principled dissenters. In the institutions she controls, she expects loyal silence.

Also, there’s no question that we’ll win. The Q is how long it will take & how many people will suffer & die in the meantime. The harder we work, the better organized we are, & the more we focus on connecting w/ & supporting each other rather holier-than-thou shit talk, the more quickly we’ll win

Top story when you go to The Guardian this AM. Which it is not when you go to the Washington Post or the NY Times. Apt language here, whereas WaPo describes the day as an airing of grievances as though we are a bunch of whining George Costanzas, not a vast public fearful of losing everything.
Millions across all 50 US states march in No Kings protests against Trump
Crowds of Americans, many in costumes, aligned behind message that US is sliding into authoritarianism

Trump posting a video of himself dropping a huge shit on America is probably the most accurate public statement he has ever made.

BASH: Santos pleaded guilty to defrauding constituents of hundreds of thousands of dollars, money he will no longer be required to pay back. Is the commutation acceptable to you?

BRITT: What I appreciate is President Trump's commitment to the American people. We saw disarray under President Biden.
