It's like we're in a liminal fascist space. And not recognizing how far gone we are or thinking we're simply too far gone are both grave errors we can't afford to make

I don't see how we can enroll international phd students if they can't get a visa for the duration of the phd, 4 years isn't long enough.

Over 125 economists signed the open letter calling on the President, Congress, and the American public to uphold the principles of Federal Reserve independence and not remove Lisa Cook without due process.

Yes, the stakes here are large. Very large.

Long before she joined the Fed, Lisa Cook stood out in a field dominated by white men. She talked about how her experience with racism informed her approach to economics.
Now, she is Trump’s latest target in his effort to exert more control over the central bank.

IZA (the German labor economics institute that had lost its main source of financial support) has found a new home and will continue as a convener and disseminator of knowledge.

Hurrah!

A key challenge for BLS is adequate funding for data collection and modernization. During my tenure I tried to identify the causes. One person told me, ‘your problem is that while BLS has no enemies you also have no friends’ meaning no powerful interest groups advocating for economic data.

The 1st Aarhus Workshop on Labor Markets (AWLM 2025) happens from Oct 22-24 at Aarhus University, Denmark.

We are excited to receive papers that focus on understanding and analyzing labor market dynamics, policies, and outcomes. Both empirical research and structural work is highly welcome!
