I got my PS5 a whiiile after Eldenring launched, and it was STILL difficult to get a unit. Bought a bundle I didn't need just to get one! And that was, yes, a while back, but not long enough for next gen, especially with today's very minor iterative improvements, vs big leaps of old gens!

Can highly recommend reading the Delta Green: Impossible Landscapes campaign book on a train halfway across Europe. The vista changes but keeps repeating, familiar faces appear over and over again, and suddenly you arrive in a familiar but different location. Also it just devours time. Nice! 👑🟨

Disclaimer: I think most genAI sucks and should be destroyed. But really, in this case -like many others- it adds nothing. Successful F2P companies have their algorithm, cheap middleware is available, etc.
That stuff was borderline illegal already, AI just means fewer data analysts involved? 🤷‍♀️

I'd argue dark patterns are something else, but eh, not gonna bat for F2P too hard.
It's not just F2P, they just have the advantage that everyone sees their own store. I'm honestly surprised Amazon isn't doing this shit with their "people also buy" offers. They just don't give any % off...

This sucks, but isn't an AI side effect. F2P has been doing this from the start. Want an item? How about the item PLUS some other junk, at 50% off! You keep buying at $10, this is a bigger flash sale, for $15! Interested? Cool, next one's $20.

(there is now different IAP prices in mobile games for different players, using AI on their data to predict behavior. Higher priced bundles when players are most engaged/vulnerable/addicted, cheap prices when players are about to leave the game to maintain addiction/squeeze revenue)

This... has been a technique since I joined the industry. We used to call it "algorithm", now AI is the buzzword. Same bloody thing. If you keep buying the $10 offer, you start seeing more $15 sales - the item you want PLUS hard currency for 50% off! etc

Man, gastronomy in Japan is just such a benchmark. Taste? Great. Price? Low. Speed? Fast. Staff? Friendly. Healthiness of food? Actually not that bad either, if you can stay away from "everything deep-fried", which... yea, impossible in Osaka, but yolo. Enjoy your stay!
