How utterly cruel it must be to have a friend that likes birding. Saw a few peeps completely unprepared for the weather heading to see snowy owls while their friens/partner had a smile, binocs/camera and look of joy.

This is cosplay. In no way does the risk level call for this level of armament. The way they play fast and loose with how they manage their weapons (should not be out unless you plan on using) shouts poor training and/or training by watching too many movies, too many bad movies.

If I pointed a loaded assault rifle at someone in the street with the obvious intent of intimidating them, I would be arrested and charged with assault (or worse).
