Really difficult to overstate the fury one should feel that the GOP and institutions like the New York Times went all in on transphobia as some mortal threat to women and girls while covering up something like this.
When you read these Epstein emails, you start to understand why so many prominent conservatives are obsessed with checking the genitals of children. It's a big thing for them!

what a vexatiously tendentious misreading. as if any analysis of global economic and productive forces which identifies two distinct and incongruent interests implies a moral judgment predicated on a moral binary.

The central global political divide is not ideological; it is about fossil fuels vs renewable, and ultimately post-scarcity, energy supply. Fossil fuels and petrostates are not going to go quietly, but China is rendering them obsolete with a speed and decisiveness that have few historical parallels.

this makes no more or less sense than requiring that your astrological sign be listed on your passport. there's no rational purpose being served by this requirement, much less one in which the state also has a legitimate interest.
Reminder: It benefits nobody in a way to list sex assigned at birth on passports, there is no requirement to include it, this is just about punishing trans etc. Americans.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court will allow the Trump administration to enforce its anti-trans and anti-nonbinary passport policy during litigation.

The unsigned, four-paragraph order effectively reverses two lower-court decisions. The Democratic appointees dissent.

also worth noting that Art Spiegelman's "Maus" had been serialized for at least 4 years by the time this came out. The two works should be read alongside each other
It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

DSA: "Maybe we don't *want* Mr. Popular in our [not a] party! Hah! We don't need him! Unrelatedly, it's SO stupid that we aren't more popular. Which leads to my next point: will Mamdani's lies hurt the Democrats' chances to move rightward? The DSA is on the case!"
Abigail Spanberger takes a swipe at Mamdani, saying "maybe he should be a Democrat" and that his campaign promises are dishonest.

Really don’t think it can be emphasized enough what an INSANELY promising technology mRNA vaccination has proved itself to be and it’s beyond infuriating that it is under active and sustained attack by the most powerful people on earth
GOOD NEWS! Researchers have developed a new mRNA vaccine that has been shown to suppress abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina, offering hope to MILLIONS of patients with age-related vision loss. The vaccine triggered strong antibody responses that REDUCED retinal damage by UP TO 85%.

These are concentration camps they're talking about. Any "prison" or "jail" that holds people who haven't been arrested or charged with any crime, who haven't been given due process, is by definition a concentration camp.
CNN has reported the Trump administration plans to build a new network of mass immigration jails that can hold up to 100,000 prisoners by funneling billions of dollars through the Navy to help facilitate the construction.
DHS Is Funneling $10 Billion to the Navy to Build a Network of Immigration Jails
The new jails are expected to look like the tent camps built at Fort Bliss, an immigration policy expert says.

_This_ is what "AI" is _for_. Push down labor power, push down wages, make employment more insecure.

American people simply refuse to understand this because they've been conditioned to assume a paranoid mindset about poor people--that poor folks are like an army of scam artists. There is a class in America dedicated to constantly scamming us and stealing from us, but it isn't poor people
For every $1 in benefits fraud, agencies spend $3.72 trying to detect it, based on the unproven assumption that means-testing lowers the rate of fraud. But there's evidence to indicate that trusting people to self-report what they need would be cheaper overall, even factoring in fraud/abuse.

With solidarity, class action lawsuits and strong legislation, they're fighting to protect their livelihoods, and pop culture, from big tech.

yet another undisguised, blatant violation of the First Amendment.
Kat is being federally charged by the FBI for protesting at Broadview.

This is a flagrant political prosecution by the Trump administration, which is trying to prevent free speech and free association.

I am proud of Kat. Her movement is being targeted by the government. She needs your support.
I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.
